Custom molded ear plugs.

I made a small discovery the other day that I thought maybe others might be interested in.

I'm a farrier and always have on hand a two part putty simply called or (more correctly) advertised as sole support material and known in other trades as dental impression material. You mix the two parts and 10 minutes later it's a soft rubber mold of whatever.

I havent tried the store bought kits that are one time attempt at making a pair perfectly molded. This takes trial and error I found out.

Long winded but for $40 you can get two pounds of the stuff and have enough goop to screw up plus make dozens of pairs of custom earplugs. Its FDA approved and lead free so hopefully that's good.

Take it with a grain of salt, talk to your physician but they are working for me. Some of them dont turn out right but it barely takes a marbles worth per ear.

Another brand makes a pink firmer material and a blue soft material. I dont have them side to side to compare but the other brand's soft material might be better but I know it's a little firmer before set. This eponashoe brand is almost runny before but sets up a bit firm.

Very cool. Thanks for that info. I still have 2 pairs from my days at Hill AFB working on the flight line. Best hearing protection ever.

I'm on my second pair of EAR's, as shown in the picture in the previous post. The first pair were done about ten years ago at a USPSA regional and the last pair at a local gunshop that had somewhere there doing a special event for them. Works great, especially for shotgunning (trap and skeet).

Beware after you've worn them awhile dogs love to eat them. I had my first pair made in the 1980s after my bird dogs are a couple pairs I went to electronic muffs.
