custom reticle

There does't seem to be a reticle that suits me for first focal plane rifle scopes with variable mag in the mid to upper 20x range.

The Burris Veracity reticles are too busy. Their original "Ballistic Plex" with an extra vertical mark and one horizontal mark on each side of the cross would be excellent. The "Ballistic Plex E1" would also keep it simple, but neither are offered on the FFP models.

This is for an old 700 in .22-.250 that has been set up for yote calling with a 4-16x Bushnell 4200. i'm using it for groundhogs now and a FFP scope around 25x with standard knobs and some extra elevation marks would be just right.

Because there aren't many FFP offerings, i'm wondering if there's anyone out there who can make and install custom FFP reticles.

Do they not have a custom shop? For some reason I thought most big brands did just for that reason. Could always call and ask. As for getting a custom reticle post production, I doubt it.

It was my unfortunate expereince that Burris customer service took a dive for the worse when Beretta bought them, and i haven't bought any more scopes since. Guess i'll have to give them another call.

Some of their 2nd FFP varmint reticles would be alright, but i want 1st FFP reticles and it makes no sense to me to have additional vertical marks so not to have to twist knobs, and the main horizontal crosshair has marks halfway across the view. These aren't target scopes.

Agreed, the SCR reticle is in some ways more organized and blocks less view, but has way too much unusable stuff that is distracting to my eye.

i've emailed Burris Customer Service with my short wish list:

* Custom Reticle Shop
* Ballestic Plex E1 reticle exactly like on the Preditor Quest 4.5-14x42
* First Focal Plane
* low turrets
* Veracity 4-20x50 and 5-25x50

If'n they did this stuff, i would likely scare up the coin to buy 2 or maybe 3. i'll surely post here if something good happens.

Well, i sent Burris Customer Service an email last week similar to the wish list in my previous post. No response yet. So called them today and the fellow didn't seem to be very interested and said he would pass the info on to engineering. i wonder if any forum members know anyone at Burris.

Yep, there are a lot of unlikely things that could happen before i see some customer service from those guys. However, 100% of the shots not taken don't score. i may draw them a picture and send it to both Burris and Beretta.

For the sake of closure i went with the Burris Verocity 5-25x with and E1 FFP reticle. Prefer the short knobs as i snag tall knobs too much in the field and like to hold off with a sporter (.22-.250 ADL). Should Burris ever come out with the reticle of choice it could be changed out. This was my first deal with Sport Optics, which is running a good sale and includes flip up caps. Cha-ching. NFI.

This scope arrived today and i was pleased with the quality of the lenses, reticle and mechanics. The contrast is a bit better than the old school Burris Signature 6-24x and 8-32x, which suits me. I'd go Zeiss or Swaro if wanted better glass, but it's not enough bang for the buck to ride an early 700 ADL. The reticle is quite crisp and the set up will be just fine. Being in the FFP, the subtends don't get noticeably thicker at 25x, but they are pretty darn fine at 5x. Very grateful to find it at $130 less than the other discount houses, plus some good quality flip up caps were included. Ground shipping was free. NFI other than purchase of this unit.

i still think it would be doable and a great service for Burris to do a custom reticle shop for basic reticles. Just sayin'.
