CZ 527 Varmint in 17 Hornet

I shoot a Cooper in 17AH so I don't own a 17H but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night. While there I did some reading.... Actually since I'm a small cal fan i've been watching it pretty close and the initial reports on the CZ are really good. If I were to buy one it would be the CZ. Sounds like it is by far the best choice out of the three available right now. I say that being a fan of the little Ruger too.

I wouldn't own the savage if they shipped me a truck load of them. Actually from the sounds of it, may just take a truck load of them to make a single rifle that functions, shoots well and has a stock that isn't cracked. Still then after you have "salvaged" one together your still stuck with one the most butt ugly rifles known to mankind.

Not too many small caliber guys here. You might try the Saubier forum. Warning though, its an expensive place to hang out.

What he said ^
Several of the small cal "loons" over on Saubier have em and love em.
Hard to find a CZ that doesn't shoot good though.

Two of my buddys have the CZ's in 204 & 223. they are all tack drivers. some people don't like the set trigger, but when your tring to hit a target the size of a red bull can at 450yrds it's nice. I'll keep lookin and find one.

I bought this 17 hornet a couple months ago, it is my first CZ and I have been very happy with it. The set trigger is very nice. I am not a paper shooter but it does great on rockchucks.

Hi Dustinyotes
Did you go with the Varmint version or the hunter version. My understanding is that the twist rate is different on the two models, the varmint having a 1 in 9 twist.
Thanks

Dont hate on the savage I have one and for a factory rifle it will probably out shoot most costing much more. 5 shots from 150 yards.

I think that's only the case between the Varmint and the American when chambered in .223 only. it looks as if he has e American, the sporter weight rig.

There's generally only two twist rates offerings for the 17, either 9 or 10 and as more time goes on the less you see of the 10 twist so it wouldnt make a whole lot of sense for them to do both.

Agreed,,, it's the 223 that's offered in two different twist rates.
Pretty sure your wrong about that being an American though. That's a Varmint contour if I ever saw one.
Bout time to get those eyes checked Darby.

It is the Varmint version, here is a better photo of the rifle.

That 50mm objective really takes the ugly out CZ's obnoxiously high rings.
Well done!

After three sets of rings and two different scopes I like the way it turned out. The 50mm objective definitely looks better than the 40mm scope I originally bought for this rifle.

I feel your pain.
I had to do the Calhoon bolt handle swap to get mine down where I could live with it.

Guess I'm a lucky one b/c my Savage is running and accurate. I like the CZs and would like to have a Cooper one day but I'm happy with my Savage.

What rings are you guys using?

Dustinyotes, your 50mm scope does look good with the rings you used.

RePete, my scope (Leupold 4.5x14) is a 40 mm, so I may have to do the bolt handle. What rings did you then use?

Problem is, I want to be able to add a dedicated night vision scope that mounts to a Weaver mount, so I may have to get the picatinny base. I assume that might put the scope a tad bit higher, so selecting rings might be easier. Just guessing.

I'm talking about a base like this.

Ain't that the truth. Goes for Centerfire and Rimfire alike. They have the magic sauce, whatever it is, and their guns just plain shoot!
