I have held both rifles and love both. But in consideration of owners I would like to hear what you have to say about both, and if anything the short comings of either. Now remember I will be hunting in Az around the Phoeniz area. And thanks for all the input from my last post on the 22 mag vs the .223 round to go with.

I have the Bushmaster varmint and have loved since the day i got it. Never had anything bad to say about untill the predator model came out with the 20" barrell. If it would have been out when i bought mine, it would prolly be the one i own. Oh well i still love the one i have, and let me tell you it will shoot.

Depends on if you like a bolt gun or an auto. On the whole autos are more expensive to purchase and set up. It used to be that auto's wouldn't compare in accuracy with a good bolt gun, but that day is in the past.

Auto's are much quicker for a follow up shot, but practice with a bolt will get you a fast second and third shot. If you reload auto's are more finiky and usualy require full length resizing to function.

I'm a bolt guy, simply becuase that's what I grew up with and my experience in the military led me to doubt the accuracy of the M-16/AR-15 platform. That was years ago and now there are some really accurate AR platforms out there.

Another reason I'm a bolt guy is that I can buy two bolt guns for the price of one AR platform. I'd rather spend the extra money on optics, fuel to go hunting, well just about anything that's hunting related.

It's your money and your choice. I'd sure shoot some before I buy if I could.

Here's my varmit choices.

Ruger #1B, 26 inch bbl .243
Remington 700 VLS laminate 26 inch bbl .243
CZ Varmit, 25.5 inch bbl 204 Ruger

bret250--really nice picture of your rig.

I have a similar rig to bret250 which I attempted unsuccessfully to attach a photo of mine:

a Bushmaster Varmint 24 inch fluted, harris bipod and Monarch Gold 2.5 by 10X 50MM, but it did not work.

I will have to figure out how to attach and upload photos.

I really like the accuracy and "fit" of my Bushmaster varminter and really like the AR platform, it did lean on my wallet, and Ms. CoyoteGunman's nerves when I started putting this rig together...but no regrets.

My Coyotegunnin' partner, Mr. Q, has a Remington Model 700 bolt with heavy fluted stainless barrel, and this cannon shoots like liquid lightning--a real tackdriver. I wish I could afford a bolt gun like my bud's Remington.

Q and I trade off taking lead on stand or set, backing one another up, also quite frankly an accomplished bolt shooter can rap off follow up shot(s) quickly...

I agree-shot both bolts and AR15 platforms--there are quite a few good to great guns out there--I would go with the one that "feels/fits" the best without bankrupting you...

Good luck!

I like them but have a tough time with AR's. I cant get a good "cheek weld" and see thru the scope. So I sold it and go with Bolt guns. However I would still like to have one and have been looking at finding someway to get the butt stock feel and comfort I want, maybe some sort of raised cheek piece.

I have the bushmaster varminter and I love it, if they would have offered the predator then I would have gotten the shorter barrel...I also have a cz 527 american in 223.

I now pretty much only carry the cz. it is much lighter, much shorter and just as accurate as the bushy...dont get me wrong, the bushy does have that insane cool factor but I would be lieing if I said that I got more doubles with the auto, infact the only double that I have gotten was with a single shot believe it or not.

I love that little cz.
