CZ 527

I'm thinking about buying this in .204 and it says it has a heavy barrel. Was wondering if anybody has this rifle and is it a "Bull" or just a bit more than a standard barrel? Also only length I saw was 21.9. Is this long enough for a .204? It's the Varmiter series I think??? Correct me if I'm wrong!

Thanks....

I had a cz527 varmint in .223. I didn't keep it long. It wasn't as heavy as most heavy barreled rifles on the market today but it was still heavy. Wouldn't want to pack it all day. I think you would be much better off with a 527 american. Assuming you are using it for a calling rifle and not colony varmints.

I don't remember the length but I thought the cz527 varmint was longer than 21.9. Maybe not. Someone will be along shortly..

Thanks...it could have been the American with the shorter barrel? I should have done more research first...

I'm sure somebody will suggest that too!

I have the varmint model in 17 Hornet and really like it. I don't find it too heavy, but to each his own. It is not a bull barrel. At the receiver it starts at bull diameter but quickly tapers to .750". It has a 24" barrel.

I just picked up a CZ 527 .223 Varmint. It's a heavy barrel, though I agree that it's not what I would call a bull barrel. It's certainly heavier than a slim hunting barrel, but it's not quite as heavy as some. I think the length of the barrel is as much of a factor, as the barrel is quite long. I actually haven't gotten to fire it yet, so I'm hoping it's a good shooter.

It really doesn't feel that heavy compared to my much shorter Howa 1500, with a "sporter" barrel profile, though I haven't weighed them to compare.

The 527 American has a shorter barrel and a lighter profile. The two 527 American rifles I looked at in the store did not seem to be truly free-floated barrels. Both had very little gap between the barrel and stock, and both had at least one point with slight contact. My varmint model has good clearance and is floated all the way to the action. May not be a big deal to you, but something to keep in mind.

I have both the varmint and the American in .204 Ruger. I prefer the American for calling, but I like the varmint for p-dogs. I did pack the varmint model for a couple of years coyote hunting before getting the lighter gun. The varmint model is extremely accurate. As far as not free floating, I bedded around the recoil lug and insured proper clearance with little more than a piece of sand paper wrapped around a dowel rod.

I have a 527 Varmint in 17 Remington and it is a bit more of a medium sporter, I believe the length is 24 inches, for a calling rifle you can't Beat a American.

7.8 lbs w/24 inch barrel the "Varmint" is a little over 1lb more than the "American" and as several mentioned not as heavy as most "Bull" barrel Rifles.I have the CZ "Varmint" .204 Rifle and it's a very nice Accurate Rifle. It also has the trigger that can be pushed forward for a much lighter pull.

The weight isn't too bad....it's getting use to the much longer barrel while carrying the Rifle on ones shoulder and trying to duck under stuff!

I ahve the same rifle as GTOHunter. They are very accurate and are not that heavy. You will be impressed with accuracy of the CZ and the set trigger is awesome.

The .223 527 Varmint is actually a 25.6" barrel (at least the walnut stock version that I have is). It still doesn't feel super heavy to me, but it's not a lightweight either.

I think the earlier varmints were made with the longer barrel, I have a 204 made in 2004 that has the longer barrel and a 223 made in 2005 that has the shorter barrel. The short barreled one seems heavier to me but it is still not extremely hard to carry.

I looked up the specs on my varmint model too and I could not believe that it weighs 7.5lbs. I don't know what it is with them but they don't feel like it to me. Feels very balanced and not so barrel heavy.
