Cz shotgun- which one?

hi all, new to the forum. im looking to buy a new Cz shotgun and am stuck between two models- the Canvasback or the Upland Ultralight. both are over/unders. i shoot a lot of trap and a lot of pheasant and quail. any imput would be greatly appreciated!

It will be a trade off. The ultralight is going to recoil very hard. However, you could target shoot with 7/8 or 24 gram loads. The loads cost a couple extra bucks and are harder to find but there are a few of them out there. Fiochi, b&p, and kent all make them. It will be great in the field but a little light for swinging at clays.

The canvasback has more mass for the swing and recoil. The trade off is lugging it around all day. You might consider a 20 ga canvasback. with some of the premium 3" loads a 20 can put the hurt on the pheasant. its weight is in between the two and will be a good compromise between swing, recoil, and carry. The 7/8 loads are standard so you won't have to go looking for low recoil loads.

Both guns come with hard rubber pad. First thing with both guns will be a recoil pad. If u do not want to increase the LOP that also means cutting the stock. Once you spend the extra cash on the recoil pad you are pushing real close to some guns that are a step up.

You are now in the price range of the new ruger red label, franchi, or maybe a used B gun.

oh yeah, you should expect any weight listed on the website to be worthless. Add at least 1/2 a lb. I've had 3 cz and all weighed 8 ounces over or more.It seems others have found the same thing.

I have a ruger red label that is wore out and needs a new firing pin, so I've been looking to just get a new gun since my ruger is going to cost a lot to get fixed

Have you called Ruger?
I wouldn't be surprised if they fixed it for free regardless of how old it is..

Ruger has an unwritten "life time" warranty, I have never known them to NOT fix a gun.

I have a 28GA Red Label that had a problem with both barrels firing. I sent it back to them and they fixed it and shipped it back to me on their dime. Before I sent it back I had dropped something on it and put a big dent/gouge in the buttstock. While Ruger had the gun, they replaced the buttstock with a much nicer one than the gun came with for free. I never asked them to do it or even mentioned the dent to them, but when I opened the box when they sent it back, it had a new stock on it. Awesome service.

Not a shotgun story, but I had a blackhack with a 4 5/8 barrel that had the ejector housing screw strip out. I sent it back with a note that if they had to replace the barrel, I would like to pay the difference to replace it with a six inch. They never contacted me but put a six inch on at no charge and re-blued the entire revolver.It looked brand new when I got it back.

Ruger = Top notch service.

Best CS/Warranty experience I ever had was from Ruger.
Above and beyond doesn't begin to cover it.
