Though you have to sympathise with the Families, It makes you wonder, Whats up with Football players these Days?

IRVING, Texas Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent has been arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter stemming from a late night crash that resulted in the death of a teammate.

CBS Station KTVT reports that Jerry Brown Jr., a 25-year old currently on the Cowboys' practice roster, was killed in the accident.

On Saturday around 2:21 a.m., Brent was driving westbound on State Highway 114 when his vehicle hit a curb and flipped at least once before coming to rest in the middle of the service road.

When police arrived, Brent was responsive and able to speak with officers. Brown was unresponsive and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Officers suspected alcohol played a role in the accident and performed a field sobriety test on Brent. Based on the officer's judgment, Brent was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

He was transferred to a local hospital for blood testing.

Irving Police said that, once it was learned that the passenger of his vehicle had died as a result of the crash, Brent was booked into Irving City Jail on one count of intoxication manslaughter.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones issued at statement to the media saying: "We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown. At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry's family and all of those who knew him and loved him."

Brent has appeared in 12 games this season and recorded 22 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Brown was signed to the practice squad in October.

The two were teammates at the University of Illinois.

CBSSports.com reported that, while at Illinois, Brent had been suspended from the team after his arrest in February 2009 in Urbana for driving under the influence.

Didn't hear Bob Costas mention anything about Eric Eucker the other day either... Guess we're going to have to ban rope too.

Quote:Browns employee commits suicide at team headquarters
By Brian McIntyre | Shutdown Corner – Sun, Dec 2, 2012 2:13 PM

On the same day that Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his 22-year-old girlfriend before taking his own life at Chiefs headquarters, an employee of the Cleveland Browns committed suicide by hanging himself in the equipment shed at the team's Berea, Ohio, headquarters on Saturday, Jay Glazer reported during the Fox pregame show on Sunday.

According to News Channel 5, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner was summoned to the team's facility for a deceased male. Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports that employee has been identified as Eric Eucker, one of the team's groundskeepers.

The Browns have released the following statement, per Cabot's Twitter page.

"This is a terrible tragedy and our heartfelt condolences go out to Eric's family. Eric was a good friend and colleague, and an outstanding employee. He will be missed by everyone in the Cleveland Browns organization."

No players or coaches were present as the team had already departed for the Bay Area in advance of Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders.

Yes they care. They are just PO'd that stuff like this goes on every day and no one says a thing till someone uses a gun.I think they would like to focus and have the energy and money spent on saving all the lives we can.And drunk driving should be one of the easiest. No where I know of does it say any person has a right to drink AND drive.Drinking and driving has no defense I know of.It is not in the same arena as firearms. It takes way more lives but where is the sport figure taking his stand to condemn drunk driving on TV at half time when he could condemn the practice to millions. Why in the world would a football player, who could afford to have a chopper come pick him up,put the public in danger.I am glad for him and every one else that no parents small child was killed this time.It was bad enough as it was.I have worked many wrecks in my younger life and will never forget what the mix of beer and blood smells like.

The problem in this country is that drinking and driving is socially accepted. People don't realize depending on how much you weigh it only takes 3 to 4 beers to have a blood alcohol at .08 or higher.

Does Bob Costas really care about anything other than his political agenda?

Did anyone care when Brent seemed to have a drinking problem?

How about other sports figures? I'm sure none of them have problems with suddenly having more money than they know what to do with. Not to mention problems similar to those we all face.

This is sad, as well as other deaths related to the NFL, and deaths not related to the NFL. What's worse is leveraging those deaths to promote one's agenda.

WE just lost a 13 yr old girl in my wifes family..she had a sinus infection was given antiobiotics from the doctor, she went into a coma and died..Do we blame the Doc/hopistal/med...No

We have a choice, All we can hope is we make the right one..

This is the most sickening statistic on the page

1,139,863 abortions in the U.S. this year

That comes out to 17,536 murdered babies PER DAY

All very good posts! The number of people killed by a legally possessed firearm pales against all of the other manners of death, including abortions. They should report that on the MSM. There is no way to even begin to tally the lives saved by legal possession of firearms. The possession of legal firearms in itself is a deterrent, even when not displayed. I've seen enough deaths by accident, murder, and suicide through the years to know it was never the gun's fault. A gang assault by a gang of drunken youths with a skateboard as a weapon left one man just as dead, though it went on for hours. It is our country's turning from God that is responsible for the violence to both the unborn and the living. The Bible says that in the days of Noah the world was full of violence, so God told Noah to prepare an ark for the saving of his family, because he was going to flood the earth to cleanse it. Many people today realize something is coming, so they're preparing (prepping) to survive it. In Proverbs 27:12 we read "A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished." The most important prepping anyone can do is to turn to God for the forgiveness He offers to everyone who will listen, accepting the death of Jesus as a payment for their sins. To do that is to enter the Ark of salvation and guarantee their entrance to Heaven, where no sin or violence will ever enter. Those who continue to demand that God be kept out of their lives and consciousness will get what they asked for, and in the end will see the error of their ways, but it will be too late.

Well put Cent.If a person tells God to stay out of their life He will, but that is a bad mistake.I have had a few experiences in my life that should have turned out really bad,but did not.I thought for a while I was just lucky. But I finally figured out God was sparing me because he had a job for me to do that I had not done yet.And as I am still here, when I am not supposed to be might mean there is something else for me to do.God uses people in his service even if they don't know it sometimes I think.Sometimes just being at the right place at the right time to do a small service for someone else could be Gods work.It might be the other person who is going to do the big thing, maybe it is you who helps just a little at the right time that allows that other person to be where they are supposed to be at the right time.Things like that are not complicated for God to do.

As a more important note compared to a drunk adult dieing, friend of mines 10 year old son died today. Healthy and the only child, somehow choked to death.

He's a good guy and has been working himself to death for a decade to give his kid a good life. This is going to destroy him.

I really could not care less about a football player, pretty much any of them. I feel horrible for the 10 year old and I never met him.

You're right on, Shootist. That's why Jesus says in Mark 9:41- 41For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

and Paul, in Galatians--

Galatians 6:2

King James Version (KJV)

2 Bear ye one another' s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

We don't always know who we help, and people don't always know when they help us. If our hearts are right before God, though, God works in and through His people. And even seemingly small things make a huge difference. Somehow God makes up for our imperfect selves, and by His grace still uses us.

2 Corinthians 2:14-17- 14But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. 15For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task? 17Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, like men sent from God.

God says we are like the fragrance of death to those who oppose Him. They are convicted of their sins around us, because of His Holy Spirit, and sense their impending doom if they don't turn from their sins to Him. But to those who are open to God, and are being saved, the same Holy Spirit is like a fragrance we instantly recognize, the same Holy Spirit that seals us all the way to our redemption. None of us are perfect, but the blood of Christ has cleansed us and makes up for our shortcomings. I want to press on like Paul towards the mark of being like Christ, though.

Indy I am truly sorry to hear of this awful thing happening to your friend and his family. They must be devastated. Please pass on my condolences.I will pray that they may have Gods support in their grief.
I had a friend who had a daughter, young daughter, who died of cancer.I had no words for him.I would go visit him and we would sit by his stove in the basement. We would sit for hours sometimes and not speak, just sit.A while after she passed he said that helped him a lot because there were no words, and just having a friend share his pain helped.
