Danner boots

I'm going to be buying a new pair of boots this year for hunting. I've owned Rocky's, Wolverine, and still have a pair of LL Bean boots that I bought in the late 70's ( been resoled!). I've heard alot of good things about Danner boots as far as comfort and long life goes, but have never owned a pair. I'm looking at their Pronghorn model in particular. Any one have a pair of these? Any comments pro or con is appreciated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Wishbone,

I have had excellent luck with the All Leather Gore-Tex Danners. They have lasted well for me, my feet always have stayed dry, and I love the Air-Bob sole for traction. Now, the only pair of Danners that didn't perform real well was a pair of hikers that had Gore-Tex, with the Cordura and leather construction.(Like the Pronghorn model I believe) They leaked within a year. That was ten years ago, so and maybe things have changed with those models now. I have had several other brands of boots and hikers with Gore-Tex and so far the All Leather Gore-Tex Danners have lasted the best.

My best pair of boots are a pair of Canadian Danners. I just put about 22 miles on them in two days, crossing many creeks and rivers. They only got wet inside when the water went over the top of the boots, but they still kept my feet warm. Brought them home dried them out, reapplied boot grease and they are like new.

But, with all that said. I think there was a thread on PM last year about Danner selling out to a company whos quality wasn't as good as Danner's.

I have been happy with my Pronghorns. I have the 800 grams model. They also do make them in all leather but that model has no insulation. I also have a pair of merrels for warm-cool weather that are not insulated and love them to death. Both of these boots are great and I would purchase new boots with either maker. Good luck in your choice!

I have 4 pair of Danner's. They kept my feet dry. I did buy a pair of pronghorns last year. And so far they are great. I have tried a bunch of other boots. But I always end up with Danner. Just about every one I hunt with uses danner. We get about 3-5 years out of them. The firs pair I bought was 4 years ago and they didn't leak till last year ELK hunting. That was the only pair of hunting boots I had at that time. For as far as I had walked in them and the abuse I put them through, well lets just say I'm surprised that they last that long.

Thanks very much guys for all the replies and info. I found a place nearby that sells Danner and will be trying some out. I don't like buying boots from a catalog and getting them here only to find they don't fit properly.
I do have some Cabela's money I need to spend though! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
