Day time sow

Thought I would checkout an area I had not been to since early last year. Took my Ruger mini-14 equipped with night vision and also my Ruger American 243 equipped with thermal in case I wanted to stay into the night. This area had grown up with tall grass because owner had pulled cattle off. Wind was NNE and my approach was from west and going uphill all the way on this 80 acre tract. Just as I broke out of the tree line I spotted 3 hogs about 200 yds straight ahead and decided with the wind in my favor I could stalk closer. No trees to use for concealment, just tall grass. I was able to get to around 75-80 yds and decided to take a shot as 1 sow had turned and was heading toward me. Got my bipod adjusted for a kneeling shot and she turned sideways and I squeezed off the 55gr Vmax. She went down and gave out a very loud squeal which combined with the shot, sent the other 2 sows running for cover. This happened around 5:30 PM and I had hope that if I set up for a coyote stand I may have success. So back to the truck and exchanged the mini-14 for the thermal 243 as thermal is much better for hunting in tall grass. I started the e-call at about 7:00 PM and stayed till 9:00 PM with no takers. I'll be back this evening to see if the

coyotes have found the sow carcass.
