DeCapping Die ?

I have a Forester press and want to purchase a DeCapping Die so I can remove the caps before I clean and resize.
I would like to stop putting dirty brass thru my resizing die.

What die should I get.
Thanks

I have a Lee and a RCBS. They both work equally well, no troubles.

IIRC, RCBS makes more than 1 decapping die. So be careful when ordering. I believe one is universal, like the Lee, and the other is only good for bigger stuff.......

GrizleyHunter,
Are you going to remove your decapping stem from your sizing die when you start decapping as a separate operation ?

Lee is sturdier, but I have been using the Redding for the while now, its got 3 size pins, one for 17-20 cals, small calibers and larger calibers. The only danger with any universal de-priming die is the flash hole, a smaller-than-average one can damage the pin. Redding has sent me replacements free of charge for the last 3 years.

Yep, that's why I was asking.
I decapped some brass with a rod that came with an old Lee Loader a couple of days ago.
Then I removed the entire stem from my sizer die, and ran the brass through it.
It's supposed to be easier on the brass (and decrease bullet run out) since you're not dragging the ball back through the neck after the die sizes the outside dimension.

Sorry for getting off the subject, but I was just wondering if that's part of the reason you were going to decap separately.

I'm honestly not sure, it uses standard RCBS decapping pins so it could be swapped if needed but I never measured the one that came with it.

People generally do it so they can decap their brass and then clean it prior to running it through the sizing die....especially important if you ultrasonic clean your brass.

Griz, give Sinclair a call.
They show a universal decapping die set.
They've usually got some knowledgeable people on the order lines.

I use the Sinclair decapping die. And I also use the Sinclair neck sizing mandrel to take care of run out. That allows me to take the expander ball out of the sizing die. And I think that expander ball is the root of all evil in runout.

Checkout the Sinclair decapping die. It works great. And is solid as a rock. No telling how many cases I have de-primed. And still on the first decapping pin inside. Tom.

I've got a Lee. It took less than a dozen rounds to break the "unbreakable" pin

Free replacement has been going strong for a while now.

Well I ordered the RCBS universal decapping die and I hope it works for the 243wssm could not find any info that said it would or would not.
The reason I want to decap before cleaning is because I use stainless media in my tumbler and had a piece of ss get stuck in the primer and broke two pins in a row.Dont want to do that again.
