Decision Made... 22 Hornet

It was a tough decision and who knows what I may do in the future but, for now, I have decided to buy a 22 Hornet bolt action. I have a 243 bolt action, two 223/556 ARs and a 204 Ruger bolt action. I had considered another 223 bolt action, a 221 hornet, a 222 Remington and the 22 Hornet. I will be doing some hole punching at the range and, hopefully, I will get an opportunity to say hello to a few crows.
It came down to no recoil and accurate to 150 or so yards. I have the 204 for target shooting and Coyotes, the 223 ARs for wild hogs and the 243 for deer or hogs or coyotes.

The 22 Hornet will be just for fun.

If you reload, the Hornet will be really cheap to shoot. If you don't reload, the ammo is pricey. I hope you get a tack driver.

I recently bought a Savage model 25 in 22 Hornet. It was a tack driver right out of the box, but I really dialed it in with 12.5 grns of Lil'gun and 45 grn hornady hornet soft points. It will be my fox gun this year, my 204 was a little hard on the pelts last year. Good luck with your hornet!

I keep looking at .22 Hornets because they look like fun. I reload but I saw the price on a box of 22 Hornet ammo once, it was close to $3 a shot!!!

I bought a CZ earlier this year and its been a real winner, I had a TC many years ago, the 40gr Nosler has been a winner for me.

Wow!! If you go to ammoseek.com you will see that 22 Hornet factory ammo is from about 43 to 60 cents a round. Pretty reasonable.

I am very excited about this gun. It is my Christmas present so I won't get to shoot it for a while but I am glad I made the decision and I am happy with it.

Good luck with it. I have a 22K Hornet. They are a hoot to shoot. Keep in mind that they are still overkill on critters with soft skin at 100 yds or less. Good luck!

I bought a very nice Used Browning A-bolt Micro Hunter .22 Hornet this Spring, came with the Leupold Rings and I put a Nikon Pro Staff 3x9x40mm scope on it and use Hornady 35 grain Bullets.Ammo cost for me have ranged around $18.00-$24.00 per box of 20 still within a decent price since I don't reload myself.

This Low recoil Rifle is a Tack Driver and has pretty good knock-down power,so far I've put down a large Ground Hog at 128 yards and have packed it out Coyote/Predator Hunting but haven't had anything come in yet for a shot.Colder Weather and Furbearer Season is coming up and plans are to score me a nice Bobcat and a few Foxes besides the Coyotes I chase after!

Good choice . Couple years back I wanted a Hornet, so I bought four of them(I am goofy like that...). Two Ruger 77s and two Savage 40s,have shot three of them (Savages, one Ruger) and they all shoot great. I'm not a benchrester but can cover three shots with a dime with all three guns. Identical load for all three is 13gn Little gun/35g Vmax/CCI sm pistol primer/COL at 1.740 to cycle in Ruger magazine. 40gn Vmax shoot the same. I'm plugging pigeons at ~100yds off a shed getting lots of feathers flying and putting nice big holes in 'em. I really like the low report and think the neighbors do too. Was using a HMR but like the Hornet way bedda. Enjoy!

I've had my Ruger M77 Hornet for about 25 years. Very nic, accurate gun, low report and almost no recoil.

I've found it to be a bit light for coyotes, so I keep the range to about 100yds, if facing me, and will stretch it to about 175 if broadside.

If you reload, Lilgun powder and a small pistol primer are the place to start.

Thanks for all the kind remarks. I can't wait to try it out. I would just love to give a Christmas surprise to a crow or two or three. LOL
Not sure what power scope to get for it. I'm sure something in the 3-10X range would be fine for hunting but for target shooting I use 18X on my 204. I'll have to think on this one for a while before I buy anything. Thanks again everyone.

Jim I shoot a Browning Low Wall in 22 Hornet. My favorite rifle when I just want to have fun. The thing about this round is the variety of critters that I have taken with it. Crows, coyote, Javelina, Turkey, Jack Rabbit, cottontail, Nutria, Pdogs all have fallen to it. I'm old school and I use IMR 4227 and the Hornady Hornet 45 grain bullet. Works like a charm.
Have fun with your Hornet.
