I am new to doggin'. I have only had my dog for about a month and a half. She is a two year old mountian cur. She usually runs around with in about 100-150 yds of me. I use a TriTronics collar and when I want her to come back I push the tone button on the transmitter and she come directly back to me.

It shocks as well but she was already trained when I got her so I havent had to shock her. I belive she was trained on a collar and was shocked to break her of running game animals and livestock as well to train her when to come. I have only had her out 3 times(a total of 4 stands) and only called one coyote in. I belive it was a pup and would not come in because it was afraid of her. I expect things to change by early Nov. when litter mates start running together. She should do real well Jan.-Mar. when coyotes are protecting territory and denning.

We have had a shock collar on Maggie for months now to try to break her from barking in our neiborhood, I think she really likes the jolt, I was wondering if the better quality collars like Dogtra and Tritronics give more of a jolt, I think that's what she needs to really catch her attention !

I tried it out on my self and on 1 the lowest setting it felt like touching your tongue to a 9volt and of 6 it is pretty powerful!

I may have to splurge and spend the big bucks for one for her then, it's probably in both her's and my own best interest, and that's just what I'll tell the wife !

I have the G-2 classic from TriTronics and it is expandable up to 6 dogs. I will probably get another dog in a year or two and it cost a lot less to just add a collar. I will then be able to work both dogs at the same time. I am also going to try and run her on bobcats with some of my buddys hounds. My dog dosnt bark much and she might run silent on track. What I'm hoping is that she will trail quite and surprise the bobcat jumping it up the first tree. Bobcats usually run far if they hear the dogs coming. I will then be able to justify the money and time I spend hunting to the wife with bobcats going for as much as they are.

It crosses my mind also, but she is always close enough that I can beep her back. I also will call futher off county roads and away from where people could be.

You can buy blaze orange vests for dogs. I don't know how coyotes would react to it, but maybe somebody should try one and see if it hurts?

Maybe when I get more experince under my belt.Drifting off the subject, I spray paint my jake turkey decoys with blaze orange and it seems to P***OFF the toms big time.

we kinda got off topic can any one tell me the basics on training and what to look for in a pup
any thing that might help
Thanks
TJ
better yet any one doing it in nj or pa or ny any where close to there that i could come and watch

Sorry TJ, I saw one of those orange dog vests in Cabela's, I think I will get one for Maggie, then if she gets shot, my reaction would probably be justified !

Exactly.... You are the man to talk to I guess huh UtDogger...? How is Maggie...? You ever seen a coyote with a dog.....? I didn't think so. Anyone with some real experience care to answer my ?...... whatever happened to that rockcreekcurs guy....? He was right on. Take care everyone. Joe.

curdawg1 not to sound rude but with a screen name like yours have you not heard of decoy dogs before? maybe you should go to the search area and type in BUBBA or talk to
Mike Granger he could set you strait. Myself, I am taking my puppy out tomorrow for the first time. we will see how well she does then!

I think Curdawg is Mason Workman, I believe he was asked to leave this board before because of trouble he caused, also sent me threatening E-Mails, not real sure what this guys problem is.
