decoy effectiveness.

hey fellas, those of you who use or have used motion decoys(predator supreme, enticer, jack in the box etc...) how much do you feel they have up'd your take if at all for yotes and cats? do more come steaming in that may have stood back to watch if it hadn't been for the decoy? are cats quicker to reveal themselves? how much has decoys helped yal. and are they worth the money? thanks for yal's oppinions. Brad

Brad,

You might try a "search" on decoys on PM, but I can tell you that the overall concensus is VERY positive.

Most of the respondents will tell you that the decoy diverts the attention away from the caller and can be placed so hat the critter must come by the shooter to investigate the decoy.

I use the Predator Supreme and wouldn't think of hunting in the Western part of my state without it. The only negative I can relate is be sure not to put the decoy out of your sight. I almost lost one to a yote that snuck in behind me.

Brad in answer to your question, I think they help in certain situations. A yote or cat my come running in if they see the decoy, or they may sit back and watch awhile, as usual you can't perdict what those critters might do.

I think Byron Souths video shows a decoy is useful and the new jack in the box by foxpro seems to be working well for those that have tried it out.

I think it would be useful in heavy cover for cats to keep their attention on the decoy instead of looking around and seeing you nearby.

Kinda like those who use an ecaller and put it out in front of them and directs the predators attention away from them, where hand calling the predator will be looking at you and you have to remain motionless.

As many have said the predator is looking for what is crying and they see what's crying is moving. LUNCH TIME!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I firmly believe that if it wasn't for that rabbit moving that I woudnt have got my first coyote, I believe it hung around long enough for me the get a shot solely because of the decoy.

I have a home-made one that works great...looks kinda silly, but the yotes don't mind...works on 2 D batteries, cost about $6.00 to make...
