Do you guys use decoys for fox and coyote hunting, i seen a rabbit decoy in cabels for like $15. i also read an small article in outdoorlife about useing a teddy bear to lure in yotes.

one more thing to carry, so usually i do not..but a pal just gave me a new one to try and i need to put it to use...if you wanna carry one..all the better. ksboy

They are definetly a hassle to carry but yes they do increase the number of critters that fall under the gun.

I did not use one for years and years and killed a lot of coyotes without one, but the last couple of years I have been pretty religious about taking one withme everytime I call and have noticed a definate difference.

It is kind of like the old story about not hiding your truck. I have a good friend who thinks I am silly for going to the extremes that I do to hide my ride.
He says , hell I have had them run right past my truck on their way to the call.

My response is yep , some of them sure will.
But how about the ones that don't?

I generally carry a light decoy I made out of feathers. You can stick this is a bush out in front of you, hang it from a limb, or as I do often stick it on the antenna of my foxpro.

Any way that you use it will help. Coyotes are a creature not unlike you and I in a lot of ways, they will often see what they want to believe.

If we give them another something to convince them that this is the real deal you are one step closer to hooking him.

I have had coyotes circling me to get down wind and suddenly see the feathers waving in the breeze and turn straight to the caller. So that is just one instance where I upped the odds in my favor.

I have had them blasting in and under normal circumstances they might have just continued on through the shooting zone , instead they hung up for a second to take a peek.
Upping the odds again.

I have had a LOT of them come in and since there was a visual for them to key on they never even tried to find me sitting there, and yes that upp's the odds even more.

So yes you can certainly kill coyotes without a decoy, but if you are figuring this deal the right way , which is by the odds then a decoy makes good sense.

I have had mixed success with decoys. When they work they work great. But when they don't, I get tired of packing it around. Most of the coyotes I call, using a decoy would not have made much of a difference. But maybe my numbers would increase if I employed one more often. Dunno. However, coyotes do comical things when they see a deke sometimes. It is a sight to see when they are at 15 feet with their mouth open, ready to snatch up the stuffed bunny. Some dekes scare coyotes off. I used a Rigor rabbit for a little over a season and that thing ran coyotes off. It shook a little to aggressively I think. I would like to try one of those "tailwagger" things. Probably work good for cats.

The above by Randy is true. The predator enticer from come-alive decoy is quiet and also very light weight. Simple to use, too.
It comes ready to go, nothing to add (except batteries).

I shot my first ever coyote this year the first time I took a decoy. Had been out a few times and am pretty sure I had one or two come in but never saw any. The first time I took my .35 cent(2nd hand store) stuffed rabbit friend along, I scored on my very first stand. Made me 1 for 1 on my hunts. Until the next week of course when I missed a pretty Red Fox just under 200 yards out staring at me.
The coyote came in watching the decoy as she cicled to put the wind in her favor. But didn't take her eye off it hardly at all. Shot her at 110 yards. I'm convinced at least here in the Midwest that a decoy is definately worth while to take along.

I bought a few bunnys, a grey fox pup look alike, and a few others for .35 cents a piece at a second hand store. All look pretty real, can't beat the price! Good luck!

SEE THE "WEASEL BALL" POST IN THIS FORUM AND THE "ANY SUCCESS WITH MOTION DECOYS" IN THE "CALLING IN THE EAST" FORUM. THERE'S SOME REALLY COOL INFO ON MOTION DECOYS.

I use the Predator Supreme decoy for every set. It works great!!! Some say it's to lound, but the coyotes up here don't mind. I had one come six feet away a couple weeks ago.
