decoys in frozen ground

so what do you guys do with your decoys when the ground is frozen and you can not get a stake in the ground? I have a quiver critter with the thick plastic stake but with the colder weather the ground is getting harder. so I'm looking for a way to still use my decoy without pounding it in the ground.

I would try to make some kind of homemade flange that the plastic stake can fit into.

make the base of the flange about 6 in wide with some holes drilled in them and you can then drive 16 penny nails into the frozen tundra .

not sure if Wiley will hear you ponding nails though - that might get u busted.

Yep, I hate that too. I have found that a large screwdriver works- until it gets real frozen. I just recently found out that the Mojo Critter decoy has a tripod screw on the bottom of it. That would really be the answer for frozen ground. that and a small camo'd tripod will be in my near future. I have heard noting about good things about that decoy anyways- especially for daytime coon calling.

I used epoxy, a coupling nut and threaded steel rod to make it easier to stick inthe ground.

They also make a base for it:

Get a gorilla pod.....it will screw right into the bottom of the MOJO Critter.
Wally World has them in the camera department. Flexible legs to adjust for uneven ground and never worry about frozen ground again.
I love mine!

I use an old tripod that came with a cheap spotting scope, just took the pan head off and run the stake down the center. So far its worked really well.

I use a old bayonette from a surplus store , like the ones on a AK its tuff as nails and i just wrapped a bunch of duck tape to the end so i can bare down on it with all my weight and wobble it from side to side , makes a nice hole for the decoy .

Deep well 3/4 socket, weld a 1/4 inch steel rod into the bottom. Cover chrome on socket with camo tape. Cut the plastic stake to length that fits into the socket.

You can also use a tree screw, used for drilling mounting screws into trees for tree stands, mount a screw driver handle onto it, then use it to drill into the ground.

But tripods work better. You can use square steel or aluminum tubing as an extension onto your decoy, and mount a nut into it for a tripod.

used new mojo critter 2 day, ground was frozen, went in like it was jello,it came with steel spike that was threaded on one end that goes into critter, other end had a point on it

I have a battery clamp that I use. I attach it to tree limbs and other stuff in the field, it works really good.

PM doggin coyotes, he sold me my decoy. He made it, and supplied the base. He can tell you more.

I was at the archery trade show this weekend and foxpro is coming out with a decoy that mounts on the battery side of their call, it replaces the battery cover, but it is pretty cool. Can't wait to get mine but it won't be available until July or August.

I will be making a stake for my mojo that has 4 stakes that I can step on to put it in the ground..Or a tripod..either way lol

Do you use a calling bag. I insert my blackjack stake into the plastic ring which is attached to the shoulder strap on my call bag. Works good for me.

For my black jack, I cut a piece of 4" wide by 8" long 1/8" steel. Drilled a hole in the center and ran a 1/4" bolt through it, welded it on the bottom to the steel. Then I just thread the decoy base onto it when in the field. The plate fits in the bag I carry and has worked well in the wind so far.
