I'm new to this forum and coyote hunting(as in none), I still hunt deer in eastern NC.(very thick) would I be wasting time and money to purchase some type of call and try to call in a coyote at the end of the deer hunt,I usually get off the stand about 9:00am,if so what would be a good production call to purchase.

THANKS

Are You thinking Mouth Calls or an Electronic Caller?

Mouth Calls....I reccomend a rabbit in distress call,Fawn in distress,Primo's Mouse Squeaker,Circe' Jack Rabbit distress and some type of Coyote bark/howling call?

Electronic Caller....check out all the different Calls at FoxPro!

I also Deer/Coyote Hunt and I don't just Deer Hunt during Deer Season,I carry a few mouth calls and use them while Deer Hunting is slow and have called in several Predators while in my ladder stand!

If using an e-caller, make sure they are legal in your state to hunt deer before taking it with you. No, I swear officer I was going to call coyotes from my deer stand!

That is why we don't call in deer season. AND we have to have hunters orange on that time of year... 5 weeks Vacation for coyotes!

We can use Mouth Calls during Deer Season,Fawn Calls,Grunt Calls,Doe Bleats etc...just stating that sometimes while Deer Hunting the Coyotes are still out there waiting for an easy opportunity to take down a Deer/Fawn.

As Chupa mentioned....check with Your local State Game Laws/Rules about using an Electronic Caller during Deer Season. Here in Missouri I'm pretty sure We can not use Electronic Callers for Deer Hunting, but if We're Coyote/Predator Hunting what's it going to hurt?It is still legal to shoot Coyotes during Deer Season and usually Furbearer Season comes in about the same time and Bobcats are fair game!

Just a little tid bit of information I've found while calling: when you sneak into your hide while calling coyotes and blow a howl or two the deer seem to make themselves a lot more visible in a hurry. I've seen a lot of deer while coyote calling in a lot less time than stand hunting takes. That's also rifle range stuff, wouldn't work for bow, but that's how I plan on deer hunting this year.
