delta lathe

I know a lot of people that hav used that same lathe and have never heard anything negative about it. I don't think that you would go wrong in buying it, however, if I had a little extra money to spend I would get one of the Jet Mini variable speed lathes.

I must agree with Jeremy I have a jet mini and wish I would have bought the variable speed. Just my thoughts.

I have the Delta Midi, a Jet mini and a full size Delta covers most spectrums of lathes. The Delta Midi is as good as they get, it would be nice to have the variable speed option but in my opinion unless you are in production turning the extra cost is not justified.

Another vote for the Delta Midi. I've had mine for about a year and am very happy with it. I got a better deal though. They were on sale and I got mine delivered for about $200. Dale

It's a good lathe. I had 6 of them when I was holding classes. They are almost indestructable. Look at some of the woodturning classified forums, you should be able to pick up a used one for around $200.00. The only thing that wears out is the belt and the bearings. The bearings are easy to replace, are available, cheap, at most any auto parts store.

Let me know if you need some links to some of the woodturning forums. Tell me where your at and maybe I can locate a turning club near you that will help you learn how to safely use a lathe.

Good luck. OB

Some information for you fellas. Delta has been purhase by Dewalt. Dewalt seems to be doing away with alot of the dewalt line and parts are getting scarce. You might want to think of this when considering a purchase. Repairs are needed sooner or later. it would be nice to be able to get the parts when the time comes.

I bought my Delta Midi sometime last year and I have been very happy with it. It will do everything I need to do, and the quality of the machine is very good (especially for the price). There also seems to be no end to the accessories you can purchase for it.
