Difference question

There are guys who can explain this better than me but a lurcher is greyhound/pit cross. Stags are greyhound/irish wolfhound cross i believe.

When we were running hounds today a guy had 4 in his truck. He said greyhound and irish wolfhound. I said stag and he wasnt to sure on that. I said lurchers (sp?) and he though that was it. He been around lots of hounds but these sight dogs are new to him. I screwed up and shot at a coyote cause he didnt see it coming and didnt get the dogs out soon enough. Ended up scaring the coyote back into the bush but when he finally them out holy crap are they fast. He calls them missiles and I know why lol

I was blessed as a youngster to ride the dog wagons a lot. We just called them Coyote Hounds I'm not sure what those pointers Jesse runs are called. (-:

Leachers are bred diff. Alot of folks use a with Terriers. A leacher can be grey hound cross with a collie. a grey hound cross with pit bull. Most the time its a grey hound crossed with some thing and worked with smaller dogs like Terriers. used as a muscle dog and catch critters that bolt.
The stags are sight dogs and dont bark going to the critter.
I use a stag with my Terriers as a learcher. They take a lot of heat off the little dogs!!

I agree. Lurchers are any longdog (sighthound) crossed with a non-long dog. Greyhound/Collie, Whippet/Terrier, Greyhound/Bulldog are popular crosses. Most are from England and Ireland and used for catching hares and rabbits. American Staghound is a sighthound that has been crossed for the specific purpose of catching coyotes. An American breed, based on need. I have both.
