Different 7mm Mag, need suggestions

Hoping to get a few suggestions from the group. I have a Remington 700 Long Range in 7mm Rem Mag that I have 40 rounds through. I actually really love the rifle, trigger isn't my favorite but it's a shooter and I love the way it handles and fits. However, I really think I should have something less hefty for deer and Elk. I'd like to trade it for a lighter rifle in the same caliber. I'm thinking Tikka T3 stainless. I'm a CZ guy but can't shell out the $3200 for a 557 Sonoran which is the only rifle they chamber the 7mm in. Maybe a Savage 116? I have a TC Venture in .243 I really like. Was considering one of them too in a stainless model. Please share suggestions for those that have any experience with any of these rifles. Thanks.

It would fit, but the barrel channel will be much wider than the bbl. May "look" goofy, but would work. I would just leave it as is, maybe change the trigger if you'd like to, and pack it. I don't mind carrying weight if the rifle is a good one.

New Stainless rem 700 sporter barrels shoot like a house a fire in this caliber. If you are hunting out of a blind, where is the issue?

I'll be packing the rifle on occasion, so shedding a few pounds on the rifle would be ideal. This is my "large game" rifle. Next biggest is 6.5 Creedmoor and it weighs more than this fella.

[beeep], get a Safari Sling and it'll be much better. I've packed a heavy 1970s era BDL in 7mm RemMag for 35 years. IMO, you want that weight for that caliber.

The difference between your remmy and the tikka t3 lite is 2#. Last 3 elk hunts my rifles have weighed 9.5# TC venture 338 win mag/custom brake and 10.5# TC icon with tactical rings and scope. I did not notice 1# when hiking.

All great suggestions. I'll shoot it some more and if I can really grove a bullet, I'll keep it. I got the rifle brand new in box for $525, so if I shoot it more I can still get that and maybe some more out of it. I appreciate it fellas. The recoil doesn't bother me as I used to shoot a .300 Wby mag,.compare to it, this is pleasant to shoot.

I have an Interarms Mark V in 7mm Mag and it weighs in at 9lbs with the scope. This rifle and caliber is my absolute go to for big game. I've anchored Elk at 400 + yards with it. I would be hesitant to hunt without it now.

Start training now for the elk season and that 10# rifle won't be a bother. I'd rather cut the weight on my self and other unnecessary gear than trade off a proven rifle.

Your Rem 700 is one heck of a good shooting rifle, better think twice on sending it down the road...think long range applications on the 700, and buy another light carry rifle in perhaps 7/08.
