HI GANG
I need feedback on using digital night vision riflescopes in WELL BELOW freezing temps
Scopes such as the newest PHOTONS and the ATN XSIGHT
I have an XSIGHT on order but have delayed delivery twice to give them time, if they ever do, to sort out the bugs, since ATN has been anything BUT straight on promises and info on the XSIGHT I am REALLY worried that it, and other digital NV riflescopes will not work well in sub zero temps.
I am interested in your sub zero experiences with any digital riflescopes including the ARMASIGHT DRONEPRO and the N750, etc.
YOUR FEEDBACK PLEASE!!!!!!!

The manufacturers should have temperature ratings for use.I have a Sightmark Gen 1 which can be used in very cold weather, but Sightmark warns to not turn it on for at least 2 hours after it is brought inside.

It isn't an issue with unit performance in cold temps but rather battery performance.

Two things to bear in mind in freezing conditions, if you are nested in a warm location such as a blind or vehicle with the optic and then move to the outside to make the stalk or hunt you will have condensation which will frost the lens, add that to your warmer than ambient air temp breath on the back of the scope...

Also if you can keep a set of batteries warm and when your ready to hunt pop them in the unit and keep it running you stand a better chance then normal style hunting with digital which is having the unit off and turning it on (cold start) in a cold weather situation.

Your question reminds me of difficulties experienced with digital technology and witnessed on a night vision show from the UK with one particular digital unit however I cannot find the video any longer so I think it was pulled however the gist of it is outlined above.

By the way I saw the latest revision of the Drone Pro at SHOT, color daytime and fixed 10x magnification with adjustable focus. Robust included IR illuminator. This could be a very solid night time performer with a bonus being the daytime color feature...

thanks for the info so far , still looking for info from a member who is actually using his digital nv riflescope at night in below freezing temps, musty be someone out there who is or has tried!!!!
sure as h--- can not trust atn to tell the truth about their x-sights real world performance!!!!!!!!!!!

Some guy on THF just posted in the latest X-sight thread that he used his scope in -10 degree weather.

There you go "info from a member who is acutally using his digital nv riflescope at night in below freezing temps"

I just saw that -10 post, just a little experience but helps, the picture/distance fading after a couple hrs usage is a concern, hopefully more info will come forward!!

I saw in the new photon xt specs that temp range is from 5 to 122 degrees f. , so that does not look that good for subzero temps!!
I am not sure what the temp range on the xsight is or drone pro.etc
