It's unreal.

I called to upgrade my system. AFTER I got done telling them what I wanted and giving them my credit card info, the tought came to me to check on if they have any kind of contract I have to sign in order to upgrade. Well, what a surprise. They do! They told me I was locked into an 18 month contract because of my upgrade. Well, I told them to cancel my order because I didn't want to be in that contract. They informed me that they couldn't cancel that order because it was already submitted, my new receiver was on the way and the money was already taken out of my account. Wow, are they ever good! they were able to ship my new receiver within 2 minutes????

I talked to his supervisor and they said they'd refund my money in 10 or so days and all I had to do was return my new receiver. WHAT??? Just don't send it, I said. Not a chance. It was already gone....

I talked to her supervisor and she told me the same thing!! I emailed them and they said once I gave my credit card info they had "no control over the situation." No control?? Who does have control? I attempted to contact them to find a number in the US for corporate office. (The people I talked to were all in the phillipines.)

It sucks to be a little fish in a big pond. You feel so helpless against crap like this.

Live and learn I guess. I just wanted to vent...

Years ago when they (dish) first started out, I got signed up. I was with them for years, watching all the latest and greatest stuff they where coming out with. Then I started having problems with my system, loosing picture, not getting signal etc. I got tired of the problems and called them, I was informed that my reciever was out dated and no longer had the correct hardware/software to run the system correctly!!! I thought since I was the customer and thru technology they outdated me, they should send me the correct equipment so I can continue their service. Oh no I had to upgrade, and it was going to cost me money to KEEP their service. I switched to Direct TV, had it a couple years, then digital cable...wow that was a mistake, now I am back to the Dish system /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

I think they have people in a little room with no windows, whose job it is to figure out how to put the bone poeple every couple years into buying new equipment. So far they have been good at it.

Randy, you didn't sign anything to upgrade, you only called. Contact your credit card company and they will probably deny the charges. When/if the equipment arrives, don't sign for it if a delivery person asks you to. If it's left anyway, call Dish Network and demand they send somebody to your door to pick up and ship the equipment back. I went through a bunch of crap with Dish Network a few years ago. They didn't win, I did!

Wease,

I gave up. I bit the big one. I'm now theirs for 18 months.

The thing that still bothers me the most is that I was farmed off to some third world country with no easy way to communicate with someone in the US. To me, that's the ultimate in piss poor.

i really hate talking to other countries. whenever i have to call a company's customer service line, my first question is, 'what country are you in?' if they say anything other than the u.s., i hang up. i always reach the u.s. eventually. sad.

That kind of suprises me when I called to upgrade to a dvr they didn't ask for anything just told me that I would have to pay 5$ a month for it. Of course I told them that I was in the process of going to Directv. By the way the 5$ was well worth it.

HA HA.... Nope, they didn't ask me for anything other than my credit card number. I was the one who asked them about a contract. That's when they told me they owned me for 18 months.

Still gets my guff...

A couple years ago I called Dish Network and asked about upgrading to DVR. They told my it would cost $5.00 per month to upgrade so I decided to buy my own DVR. When I activated the DVR they advised me that I would need to send my old receiver back to them, and that they would send a box to return it in. After about 5 or 6 weeks this box finally arrives. I set it in the garage for no more than two or three days when my wife comes in and tells me that Dish Network had taken $100.00 out of our checking account because I hadn't returned the receiver. I checked and found they had removed the money 8 days before I received the [beeep] box from them. I called them and told them how ignorant they were. I was finally put in touch with an account rep who wanted me to send them proof of when I'd received the box. So I did that. Then when I placed the old receiver in the box to send it back I dropped it into the box from 6 feet. It took another 2 months to get our $100.00 returned to our account. I learned after that to never allow anyone to simply remove money from my accounts.

Coyote6974,this happened to me also.Consumer fraud?Maybe.I changed to Direct TV;they seem to be a better company to deal with. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

and now dish no longer carries the outdoors channels or the water channel..... or court tv!! i'm going back to digital cable.

I know! They just took it not too long ago didnt they?

outdoors and water were taken off several months ago. dish 'claims' they never got paid. i have no idea if that's true. court tv went before that. i got dish because of monster hd, but i miss my cour tv and men's channels!!

In my first post I was complaining about not being told I would be under contract for 18 months. Well, my DVR came today. In with the operators manual was a contract informing me that I was to be their's for the next year and a half. But, no place for me to sign to agree to this.

It all seems shady to me.

Also, for those with DISHDVR, can you watch one program and record another at the same time? I can't seem to find that function... I sure hope it has it.

I am pretty sure you can program it to record whatever programs you want it to. My uncle is really big into this kind of stuff and he says there is a way to put a computer hard drive in it so you can fit more stuff on it, way more stuff!! Im not sure if yours is hooked up to the internet or not but just remember that big brother is always watching!! What better way to profile you than to keep track of what shows you watch/record????

Court TV will become TRU tv as of Jan 1st.....I think the said all reality all the time.
