Distressed Kitten sounds??

Kitten distress on an open reed? Sounds interesting. Weasel, how to you make that sound? what handmotions and inflections do you do? do you use the tip of the reed for that sound?

I haven't been using hand motions at all. I just hold the call at a slight downward angle. I use my eye tooth on the reed and blow softly while releasing pressure with my tooth, but keeping some pressure on the reed with my lip. I started trying it after practicing cow elk calls which kind of sound similar to a cat mewing. My wife tells me it sounds just like a kitten and it drives the dogs crazy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I think the secrete is to blow softly, just enough to get the reed going.

Weasel,
So I guess you got that new reed setup working pretty good! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I sent weasel a new set of reeds to try in his YDD2. It's a double reed setup I've been playing around with. Weasel had mentioned wanting to do the cat distress, so I set out to help! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif He had the first set other than my prototype. Now Drewmihunter also has the same thing. I haven't used it in the field much yet, as I've been real busy with work. I'm finally all caught up and I'll be hunting a lot now. I plan on giving the new reed setup a lot of field testing now! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Not much is new in this call making thing, now is it?

The only thing we can all hope for is that we can learn from each other, make better and more effective calls, and in the end, improve the sport.

In the end no one will remember what you you took, but they might remember what you gave.

for some real eye openers.....check out the patents on calls.... lawd have mercy, some of them boys were putting some serious brain power to work. No kidding, it is quite scientific.

There is nothing new under the sun...

I couldn't agree more, that's why I try to help as much as I can.

Actually Rich, I believe P.S. Olt (and other duck call makers) used doubled open reeds long before Jack Cain ever did.
Did Jack ever make open reed calls?
It certainly was not my own idea, and I love that others are using it too.
Like Al says, it can only improve the sport as a whole.

Does anyone know of an open reed predator call that used double reeds before I did?
If I was remembered for bringing that to predator calls, I'd be proud, if not, I still am proud.
It is a good idea.
