Do coyotes howl in cold temps

howler

I was reading grangers post about hunting in -10 and he was having a tough time hearing coyote howls, Randy Anderson in his 1st video said that he rarely hears coyotes howl in temps below 15 above, I got to thinking I have had a tough time getting them to howl in cold temps also, I don't know what the break off point is but it seems they do not howl much in temps that are near zero or below, So having said that are howlers any good in cold temps. So does howling in cold temps create an unnatrual situation, And why don't they howl when it gets near zero ??

Some people don't hear them howl at low temps cause they have so much over their ears. We have killed them hear when they are howling at 0 deg without adding the wind chill.

I hunt up north next to the Canadian line and consider minus 15 to minus 25 below the best calling weather as long as there is not wind. I get plenty to call back when it is that cold. However, I have just as many come in without howling back.

We were out this morning, minus 7 degrees with 5-10 MPH wind. We started out with a lone howl with no response. We group howled a minute or two later and got at least 2 different groups to answer us. May have been more but it is hard to hear with many layers over your ears.

I'm in the central interior of B.C. It was -24 when I went to bed. At 3:30 am the yotes where howling not far from my house making my dog very restless.

I'll admit they have been howling less since this cold weather moved in but I'm still hearing them howl. Back in Oct, they were howling non stop.

Coyotes come to calls when they feel like it. They probably howl when they feel like it. There is no doubt that coyotes have certain behavioral traits that are common in all coyotes. But! Each one is an individual and answers to its own urges or the packs urges at ANY GIVEN TIME.

We went on a night hunt last night and had a group howling at us at about midnight. The temp at that time was a few degrees below the donut.
