do-it-yourself camo painted stock questions

I have a Remington 700 BDL in .223 and I just bought a new take-off SPS stock for it off of Ebay so I can take off the nice wood stock to save it from getting scratched/dinged and I want to paint the synthetic in a nice camo color combo. Any of you guys done the same? Any pics so I can get some ideas? Is there any particular paint I should use? Any links to sites that address this? Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated.........Thanks in advance.

I have painted synthetic stocks after a light buff to enhance adhesion and cleaning with acetone. I primed it with Krylon Fusion paint and after 3 days drying (it seems to take that long) applied the krylon camo base coat. Once the pattern was established sprayed the whole think with clear matte.

In reading over my post I stated that I primed it with Fusion, that of course was the plastic stock. The metal I primed with Rustoleum Rusty metal primer or something like that (even though the gun was not rusty) and then topcoated the whole thing with the camo base, assembled and then sprayed the pattern.

Krylon has an extremely flat "camo" paint. Check your local Wally World or Big K. I've seen three colors Black, Tan and Olive. About $4.00 each.

Here is one I did in just krylon. It will wear off at contact points (grip, forearm etc..) A coat of matte clear will help alot, but I usually dont worry about it too much and just touck it up when it needs it. This pic is a few months old. The finish is wore off on the grip and bolt at the moment from shooting alot, but I dont worry about it too much.

Here is a pretty good link on painting.

I have camo'ed a few rifles and I use the krylon paint at Walley World, it works good but does wear off in time. So what, you should have alot left-over to touch up with. One thing I have realized, camo is in the eyes of the beholder. If you like it, thats all that matters.
