doesn't seem to be a correct forum for the question. just wondering what handgun you for and caliber?
i use tc encore in 6 br. thinking of building xp-100 in 6.5 creedmor.

I have a Contender in .223 and have tried with My Super Redhawk, but have never had a coyote come in on the occasions that I have taken them. I hope to get lucky one day!

I seem to do most of my hunting with handguns, particularly revolvers, in the last 5-10yrs. I have a lot of handguns to choose from and have hunted with a great number of them, but I'll share my "short list" for go-to handguns for hunting:

[*]Ruger Mark II 6" Standard Stainless 22lr - killed thousands of coons over hounds[*]Taurus Tracker 6" Stainless 17HMR - bunnies, coons, and a few coyotes across the feedlot[*]Ruger Single Six 4 5/8" stainless 32H&R Mag - bunnies and coyotes, sadly, I don't have one anymore that's suitable for hunting, as I just cut the barrel down on my last one (have owned up to ~30 of these at one time), guess I'll have to replace it with an adjustable sighted 327Fed Mag Single Seven[*]Ruger Super Blackhawk 7.5" Stainless 44mag - been hunting it for over 15yrs, lots of deer, a few piggies, and a few coyotes[*]Ruger Redhawk 7.5" Stainless 357/44B&D mag - just got this one rechambered, building it up as my "ideal whitetail revolver"[*]Ruger Super Redhawk Toklat 5.5" stainless 454Casull - Got it this summer, took a doe this winter, best balanced revolver that I own.[/list]

I had an XP100 in 221 for a while, just didn't love the 221, then I had a few Savage Strykers in different flavors. I'm still planning another Stryker or XP, probably something around a 7mm WSM or 338Edge.

I've been in and out of a Contender pistol. I ALMOST bought another one in .45-70 recently for my wife, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Something about it is just not quite right for me I guess.

I hunt varmints with a handgun now. No deer anymore.

I like to keep a good .22 rimfire handy when out shooting ground squirrels and prairie dogs. Such a challenge taking them with a handgun of some sort.

Standing on my hind legs and taking the head off a prairie dog at 88 yards with my old Model 28 .357 Mag Smith and Wesson is infinitely more satisfying than taking one at 400 yards off a bench with my .220 Swift.

Ive handgun hunted fornhogs and deer with anywhere from .44spl all the way up to .480 Ruger.
Sometime in the next yr i plan to get my GP100 .357 mag or a Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley hunter in .41 mag out for coyotes just to see if i can get it done.

For the most part I stopped hunting with rifles a few years ago. I used to take pistol and rifle but would somehow always use the rifle, so it was time to put the rifles away. I love the challenge of using a handgun, not to mention the ease of carry.

For coyotes:
T/C Encore in 223 Rem, 204 Ruger, 243 Win. , 257 Raptor

Deer and pigs:
Ruger SRH 44 mag and 480 Ruger
Ruger SBH Hunter 44 mag
Encore 429 GNR
Encore 257 Raptor
Encore 475 Linebaugh

I've used a handgun for things like deer and black bear. Several deer taken, still waiting to take my first bear.

Several deer have fallen to my scoped 9.5" Ruger Super RedHawks chambered in .44 Magnum.

This year I got back into the T/C Contender game and took a deer using the T/C chambered in 7-30 Waters.

I have a scoped 10" barrel in .22 Hornet and a scoped 14" barel in .223 for the T/C that I had planned to use for fall turkey and possibly varmints this year, but never got time to go after them.

I also have a 7.5" Super Blackhawk that I usually carry as a sidearm when hunting with a rifle, but if I find a thick piece of cover where the shots will be under 50 yards it will be carried as my primary weapon.

Well I am probably the only one but I use a Magnum Research SSP-91 in 7mm BR. The 7mm BR is definitely a reloader's gun but a great shooter. Use it for deer and pigs.

well guys glad to see there are other handgun hunters out there.

last night in the deer blind didn't see any deer but this skunk made the mistake if hanging around to 1 minute of legal shooting lightwas left. he raised his tail at 100 yards and gave me a perfect texas heart shot with the 80 gr sspb.

think i need to change my handle from foxhunter to hand cannon bob . shot what i thought was a large doe tonight with 6br encore 210 yards. turned out to be a large buck that had already lost his horns, seems early.
about an hour earlier i shot a coyote with it at 190 yards, that's when i reminded my self why i wear ear muffs with this thing.
i have got to get my camera fixed or a new one.

I sometimes use my S&W 6.5 inch 629 revolver to hunt deer. I've taken several deer with it, and it works well. Last year I used a 6.8 SPC II AR pistol to take one of those large does that turned out to be a buck that had shed in the last week of December. I usually carry a 4" S&W model 66 when I bow hunt during gun season. Haven't used the 66 on a deer yet.
