Do you use either of these Hoppe's products?

Do any of you folks use either of these? And if so, which one & why not the other?

I have both and no idea why I ended up with both of them, but wondering what the good/bad is with either one.

I have some of the bottom #9 bottles I've accumulated over the years I just use them for a quick exterior wipe down... whether they work or not I have no idea. The gun slick foaming bore cleaner That I Used to Love is now called hops foaming bore cleaner and can tell you it doesn't clean out copper fouling like the gun slick stuff does they must have changed the formula. The ones I ended up with I believe came in the aluminum cleaning rod kits from decades ago.

Used Hoppes 9 for years, but when I was shooting HP competition found that Bench Rest did a better job on copper fouling. Required an occasional Sweats treatment to keep copper fouling out. Having tried a shelf full of cleaning solvents over the years, you can see what has worked its way to the front of the shelf below:

I just thought I was getting my barrels clean......then came the bore scope.;) The barrels I thought were clean all had copper/carbon fouling so the search began in earnest

until I discovered Tactical Advantage. Took several applications as the carbon fouling was an accumulation of several years.

Once accumulation was removed, it is a simple matter to clean a good target barrel which has fired several hundred rounds with a stiff nylon brush, such as Iosso brush shown below.

I also have made the switch to Wipe-out products. I like to flush first with Free-All, especially warm barrels. And after I dry patch out hunting rifles, I run a patch with Hornady one shot cleaner, it is a very good rust preventer and I haven't seen a big clean bore first shot poi shift with it.

I use wipe out as well as Hoppes foaming. Depends which one I have with me at the range. I use the Hoppes 9 for general clean up of the action, bolt etc.

When I foam the barrel, I give it a real good shot. It will also foam out of the ports of the brake that I have on one pistol. I'll clean up around my bench, stow my gear in the truck and the clean the barrel.

As others have stated, after a range session I usually run a Hoppes Benchrest soaked nylon brush or two through the warm barrel to soften up the carbon, then dry patch and apply TA @ home. Another big advantage of TA and other foam cleaners is that they do not harm the barrel as ammonia based solvents will if left too long. I let the foam sit for several hours and often overnight, then dry patch. If rifle expected to be used in a few days, I put it away; if no use planned in foreseeable future, I run a RustPrufe or CLP soaked patch through bore first, then dry patch before shooting. On gas operated systems, I always position gas port @ 12 o'clock to keep foam out of gas system.

Shooters choice is one of the better "older" solvents, along w/Hoppes and Hoppes Benchrest. Used it for years.

I mainly use regular Hoppes #9 with about 20% Hoppes BR solvent added to the bottle to help with copper. Gentle/effective. Will come home after a match, soak bore with that mix, sit overnight. In am a dry patch then another wet. In afternoon another dry & couple wet, If in a hurry will do several wet with just the BR solvent, til patches quit coming out green. HM1996-I'll look into that TA.

I used the BR overnight after 58 rounds of 30-06 on match day; might take a double dose after a 108 round match but that was before I found TA. I think you'll like it.

I never thought Hoppes did a very good job. Shooter's Choice was better but still needed Sweet's or something else to get it clean. Now I only use Wipeout Patch Out on rifle bores, and Wipeout Tactical Advantage on ARs and pistols. It's good stuff.

My experience exactly. Hoppes 9 didn't keep copper out of my rifle barrels; Hoppes Bench Rest did much better job but still required Sweats once in a while. TA got my attention on the AR and have since switched to TA for everything.

Hoppe's #9 original and Synthetic are on my bench along with all above mentioned. I used foaming bore cleaner for a few years and it didn't do well on carbon. now pretty much Hoppe's Synthetic and a carbon cleaner.
