Does anyone make a closed reed woodpecker distress call?

For some reason I can roll my tongue when using a closed reed call, but not an open reed.

I'm looking for something high pitched that'll do woodpecker and other high pitched distress.

Anyone make one?

I've tried the open reed several times and can't get it down. I can barely roll my tongue in the first place, then when I get the call in my mouth it gets in the way. I have a closed reed rabbit distress and I can do it fine with it.

I sent Arky a PM.

Thanks!

I would give anything if I could roll or "twill" my tongue as that is an awesome sound and I've tried doing it for forever it seems!! I was going to recommend Joe also, he makes a great bird call!!

I am waiting on Arky to get back to me and have thought of another question...

Is his call very hard to blow? I bought a production woodpecker distress call from a maker last year and it is so hard to blow that I can't use it. It wore me out.

I just got one of Arky's woodpecker calls a couple of days ago. They don't take that much air at all to work. I'm still playing around with it and it's been too windy past few days to get out with it (been concentrating on deer right now too). But I can tell you I do like it.
Joe also has a sound file of it's sound, it's in Custom Calls, Title: Not Taking Orders, Date: 9/10/08

You might want to try the Zepp's Rattler. It is easy to make that sound with it, and it won't freeze up on you in extreme cold weather.

Try growling in your throat while you are calling it doesn't sound as good as rolling your tongue but for us handicapped people it is all we can do.

I sometimes growl with an open reed, but I can roll my tongue with a closed reed. I wanted something different to add to my sound arsenal.

I got my call from Joe yesterday. It sounds great! I wanted to add a different sound to my lanyard and this call is just what I wanted. Thanks Joe!
