Does anyone watch Predator Quest with Les Johnson?

As a new guy wanting to get into coyote hunting I've been watching it. It makes me want to get into the field and hunt, but it looks entirely too edited. Unless his brother is working 3 or 4 cameras at a time there is no way he is actually shooting at the coyotes when he is on camera pulling the trigger. I imagine he does a pose move/aim/shot after the kill. The only reason it bothers me is because I'm trying to figure out how much movement you can actually get away with before the coyote spooks and scrambles out of sight. From what I've read here about the importance of being still, Les seems to move around quite a bit.

I personly love his videos ther basic quick and informative I find my self watching his videos at work for longer than I should (why did they ever give us laptops in our cars lol) but he is a member here maybe he can go into depth about what he does I do know how ever that in the processs of making any hunting movie for that matter there is a big diffrence between making a quality movie and just hunting as far as the movement part I personaly think you can get away with allot more than what people tell you by no means dont be walking around trees or bushes to get a better shot but it seems like every time I get busted by a coyote and he turns and runs its not on a dead sprint and if you let out a bark or call again he will almost always look back to see if he is missing some thing

Yeah, I'm watching them way too much at work too! LOL. He is informative. I guess the network needs a TV friendly format for the audience. Now that I think about it, most of his shots are 100+ yards so I doubt the movements he is making are that noticeable from that distance. I guess that does give me an idea how much movement is acceptable. He does mention that he moves when he sees the yote look away.

Les shoots many coyotes with his shotgun if you watch more of his episodes.

I have hunted with Les and he doesn't move a lot on stand. The hunt episodes you see are edited obviously to create a piece that can be watched on TV. After the editing and additional footage he gets, he makes an overall episode that is entertaining for viewers.

Be happy because without editing and cleaning up it could look like this.

was a big fan.. had a PQsticker on my pick-up

Tell us more Weasel

I should say that I've watched all the episodes on the website and enjoyed them. Cool that they show the misses and some shotgun action too.

Good feedback guys. Don't get me wrong, I like the show. My wife will probably get sick of it. Something about a dying rabbit in the living room culminating with a dead dog just doesn't sit well with her. LOL

What I like about it (aside from scratching an itch to learn the sport) is that Les isn't arrogant. A lot of the big guys just have that air about them. Les has that southern boy drawl and easy going nature. I love his reaction when he misses a shot. "I don't know what happenned thar!" LOL At least his unsuccessful hunts don't hit the edit room floor.

Les is probably one of the most sincere and nicest guys I have met in my short life of predator hunting.

Looks you in the eye and truly seems like he is interested in what your saying.

If he's only doing it as a sales pitch he does a real good job of making you believe.

He came to an APC meeting here in Arizona and was pretty cool. Gave a bunch of callers away to kids and answered questions long after he had too.

He gets a big thumbs up in my opinion.

Every Saturday and the reruns also. Les portrays the type of person you would ask to sit down at the dinner table with your family. Great coyote hunter!!

Whats the deal Weasel?

His show is doing well, I saw that it got several awards on this site http://www.bestoutdoorshow.com/. Unfortunatly, looks like they have taken the awards down.
Unfortunatly my rabbit ear antena won't pick up his show lol. I guess I'll just have to settle with watching clips on his site.

repetition repetition repetition
experience experience experience

les found a system and an ecosystem
and when applied he gets to make a livin at what he loves
i learned a ton from his show and his videos
(since my own style is "bringin em in close" and i hunt in big open country)
if you want to watch completely different styles compare byron south and les johnson
look at the difference in weapon choice and calling styles
if i had a choice of only two pros to watch it would be them

they are both down to earth honest guys
pay attention to them and you could learn everything there is to know about how to successfully hunt coyotes
anywhere in the country (then add your own developed style)
also note...they have a great TEAM of folks with them
both admit they wouldn't be nearly as successful without the team
and
if you get a chance to go to a seminar of either...GO
as mentioned they love to talk about and help with even the most basic of questions

I was at that APC meeting with my 11 yo son. Les gave my son a signed ruffidog call. My boy hasn't stopped talking about the night or begging me to go hunting since! Les seemed to have a lot of knowledge and is not afraid to give it away.
We plan on going to our first novice hunt together this month.
