Hey hound owners, just out of curiosity What kind of Dog food you guys feeding, My self I was using pro pac High Protien until I ran out on a weekend I couldnt get to the feed mill, then I went to Wally World and bought "OL Roy" 26% protien and 13% fat, we have had some really cold weather here and I think they need some higher fat content food, whats the feeling about it . What is your favorite type, and price.

Been pouring the bacon fat to the "Ole Roy" and feeding smaller portions but up to 3 times a day. Warmend up for a day and snowed another foot back down to -33 right now. Hounds 'bout as bored as I am.

not expert on this subject but do know that from being in the retail pet food sales that any pet food that does not have a high portion of meat ie. ( meat ingredient in the first two listings) on the ingredient list on the bag is not worth feeding to an animal that you really care about or are working, the big companies ( mass retailers) such as wallys, grocerie stores sell mostly economy pet foods, corn and some of the other grain products are included in the ingredient list to make the finished bag cheap to the consumer. don't be fooled the protein level has less to do with the quality of the dog food than most think, you can find a very high protein dog food that is worthless due to the fact that the protein is a grain protein not a meat protein, and remember dogs are meat eaters not grazers like a cow. buy a good quality meat based dog food and your hunting dogs will be more healthy, it will cost you a bit more but your dogs will eat less due to the fact that the food is more digestable!

chas06 propac is a good dog food, stick with it and a bit of bacon grease will not hurt either in cold weather, higher fat level in winter is better

I am feeding Hi-Tek rations, red bag of 26% protien 18% fat. The feed is made up of chicken by-products. All of Hi-Tek ration's feed have chicken products as its main ingrediant. I believe that the chicken gives the dogs more energy and fills them up and is much healther that say "corn" feed. I'm not a real big dog food person and can't really tell you why this is, all I know is that my hounds have more energy and look a lot healthier then they did when I fed 'Ol roy for a while. Just my thoughts on feed, See ya, MOyotehunter

i was feeding high standard feed 26-18 and the hounds were doing real good. i was getting low on feed and a friend is selling hi-tek so i got 10 bags from him. same thing 26-18 and i like it. seems like the hounds are staying in good shape and the coats are nice and shinny. i was at another friends house this weekend and he sells pazzaz or something like that, same thing 26-18. i bought 10 bags from him and will try it out. when i change feeds i always buy enough feed so they are not changing alot at a time.it takes me a while to feed out so i can watch the hounds.

just because it says high protein does not mean its a digestable protein a lot of the store brand dog foods use feathers as a protein which is not digestable, ask you vet he will tell you, good food is not cheap but thay dont need as much food so the price is about the same in the long run.
hope the info helps.

I was waiting to hear from someone using Black Gold, YOu cant buy it around here but I was just wondering howit is, Thanks also for the info on HI TEK, have to check that out, I agree in the protein thing about meat and corn, I have one Black and Tan that sucks food like a vacum, esp corn type. Thanks
