Don't go pawn shop hopping on Sundays

Well crap, now I'm broke again. Went to the local GS thats open on Sunday for a pound of H4350 and a box of 9mm bullets. Got to visit with my buds that work there and one ask if I ever went to a pawn shop on Sheridan street in Tulsa that has a lot of guns?I'd been in there but not in a long while so I thought, Sunday, crappy weather, why not. Looked at the pistols, nah, shotguns, nah, then rifles. In the rack was a Remington 700VLS/223 with a Leupold Mark 4 scope. Hmmmmm!! Just a quick glance and it looked pretty clean and had a $1250 plus tax price tag. The counter guy started his sales pitch then said he would take a reasonable offer. I offered a grand out the door and he accepted it. Cool!! Now the plot thickens!! I did my paper work and while he was calling it in, I ask to see the rifle again. This time I started looking at the scope. Parallax adjustment was real hard to turn and I thought that very odd on a Leupy. I flipped the rifle over and the serial number is 8888SC. This throws up a major red flag. Its a fake!! I remember a few years ago a guy at the gun show selling fake Leupolds and the numbers were similar. Needless to say, I stopped the transaction. We talked a little more and the salesman dropped the price to $800. I told him that was new price and its a used rifle. I countered with $600 but he wanted $700. Stuck to my offer of $600 and he turned me down. I said OK and started out the door and he stopped me and accepted my $600 offer. So I got the rife and the POS scope for $600. I have a new Athlon on the shelf and the fake can go on the bench. Really hadn't planned on a new rifle today but.....Yipee. Glad I got it. $1250 to $600I think is a decent deal on a Sunday afternoon.

IDK if he did but I saw it pretty quick. The rifle also has a Harris bi=pod that extends to 23". Thats a little bonus to.

That fake Leupold ended up helping you out. $600 and that includes a Harris bipod? You ending up with a sweet deal there, Bill. Congrats.

And Leupold rings and bases. LOL Kinda makes me wonder if they didn't know the scope was a knock off????? It sure would have been a SWEET deal to get the rifle and a Mark 4 for a grand though. Thats a $1200 scope. Oh well, I'm OK with the deal I got.

Seeing its a slow twisted barrel, think I'll try some 40 grainers in it. I have two full box's of Bergers on the shelf.

Range Trip today! After trying several scopes I had on the shelf, I went with a 6x18 Redfield in Leupold mounts. I did my best to zero it with the POS alignment tool I have and soon figured out I didn't have enough elevation in the scope. After several on and offs, shimming under my rear base I was close. I loaded 30 rounds, 40 grain Bergers and 40 grain BlitzKings with Varget and headed to the club. After a couple of 25 yard shots just to make sure I'm center and on paper, I moved to 100yds. Well, shooting 2 inchs low and out of adjustment I shot anyway. Heck I was there, why not. It DO like them light weight pills and Varget. Never seen anything bigger than 1/2 inch groups even with the wind blowing like crazy. Got home, unloaded the rifles and made a dash to town and bought a 20MOA base. Pulled all the stuff off and installed the new base and rings. Scope seems happy now. Just need to load some more and make another trip to the club.

At $600, it's doubtful he was losing any money. Makes one wonder
what the scalper paid the original owner who was probably down
on his luck! Methinks he was attempting to stick it to those on
BOTH ends of his transactions!!

Isn't that what pawn shops do? I was lucky enough to catch the bootleg Leupold before he got me.

Before any of you buy a USED Leupold or off the internet, roll it over and check out the serial numbers, or ask to see the serial numbers. A friend of mines son bought two off of Wish.com, both were fake....but he got a good deal on them.

This one is 4x14x50. Sorry but my conscience won't let me sell it. I have no idea if its even decent being fake. I pulled it first thing when I got the rifle home and its laying on the bench. I may stick it on my 22lr just to see if it will hold zero or even function at all but I don't feel right selling it to anyone. I was told today there are even a few bootleg Zeiss on the internet for sale too. Buyer beware!!!

After I posted this last comment, I got curious. I got the Mark 4 wannabe out on the porch and started looking through it. Actually, its pretty clear. And, it is a nice looking wannabe for Chinese fakes. I was adjusting the eye piece and it seems really loose but I did get the crosshairs cleared up. I was seeing leaves on the trees at 200yds or better. Kinda had me thinking hmmm......Then I started messing with the eye piece and noticed it had some up and down movement in the threads. LOL, when the eye piece moved, so did the crosshairs. Maybe clean the oil off the threads and some Gorilla glue, that should tighten them threads up just fine. NOOOOOOWay I would sell this to anyone. Just couldn't do that.
