i have been looking at getting an AR for some time and am considering this on just looking for some info on them. I won a couple of guns ( franchi alcione 12ga and a bar longtrac 270) on a raffle saturday night ans am thinking now is the time i can pick up a sportical for like $775. I can sell both guns and still hav esome cash left over or i could just blow it on the r15 vtr they have with the 18" upper.

I have the R-15 and love it. I've also read some good reviews on the Sportical. I believe it lacks the forward assit, which is not necessarily a bad thing. In your situation I would probably get the DPMS and spend the rest on some really good glass, but if you already have sights or optics I'd opt for the R15. Are you looking for a hunting rig or just a plinker for some fun?

We have had one(well a Sportical upper on a rguns lower) for a few months. I like it really well. Have a couple hundred rounds through it-Wolf military, US military, and handloaded deer and coyote hunting loads with no malfunctions. It shoots good-my 9yo killed a nice spike buck with it during youth season. I put a Levang linear compensator on it to help with noise in the hunting fields and did a redneck camo job on it. The Sportical upper does not have a forward assist, brass deflector, nor dust cover which thus far has been a non factor. The upper is a little bit thicker than the standard AR because the aluminum is of a lesser? grade or toughness? However all that being said I am happy with ours-the barrel length and weight is perfect for a predator rifle. And I think you can find them for around $600 plus transfer shipping etc. I would say it is a great, no frills entry level AR bargain. I have seen others around here give a thumbs up to the CMMG barain bin parts guns too-so that is probably another viable option for an AR in that price range. TnTnTn

The first two ARs I owned were DPMS and one was a Sportical, I havent had any issues with either of them, some people like to knock them because they are not $1500-2000 rifles..but they shoot..accurately and reliably, I would buy another one if I had the chance.

I just picked one up a few weeks ago.

Thinking of a couple doubles I might have taken last year, got me thinking AR 15.

Only a hundred or so rounds through it, but I'm really pleased so far. Shoots a 60gr vmax with a max(Book)dose of varget very nice. $629 was my price also.

Trigger lacks a little, but a Timney 3lb is on the way.

I just put a sling and scope on it, a Redneck camo job I'm itching to go!

ahh yes my bushy gets a new mccormick drop in tomorrow!!! love new triggers!! the bushy trigger will then go in my DPMS Lo Pro
