DPMS

I didn't know they went under. I was looking at an AR 10 DPMS in 308win at a local shop. I went home to do a search and put in DPMS and nothing came up. I was talking to a friend at another shop and he said they sold out to another company. I need to get out more.

DPMS pretty much won out on the design that about every company but Armalite or Knights uses. 16" DPMS .308's with clam shell handguards were common on Walmart gun shelves, before they sold out. I wouldn't be scared of it.

I have a 15+ year old DPMS lightweight stainless that still shoots really well, sad to see that they are no longer. 1.5 MOA w cheap ball, usually under 1” w good ammo.

The one I was looking at is a tank. IIRC it had an 18" heavy barrel (not threaded) and a free float handguard. Seemed to be in decent shape but man its not a rifle you want to carry very far. LOL. They were asking $600. Seemed priced fairly being an AR10 version.

I have one in the 16” .308…yeah that joker has some weight to it!! Shot great, but it now sits in the back of the safe with all the other AR’s that hardly ever get used anymore. Guess they’re more of a break glass in times of trouble type weapons for me now.

The DPMS LR-308 series of rifles were absolute tack drivers, excellent package especially considering the cost. Below is my DPMS in its current configuration featuring DPMS's 18" flute SASS barrel. The rifle came from DPMS originally with a 24" fluted barrel and MagPul's PRS stock, I wanted a lighter package so I ditched the stock and added an A2 and swapped out the barrel with the 18" one. It shoots as you can see by the group below... not a cherry picked group either, it shoots like this consistently.

Yes, they are heavy... not a stalking platform, more of a stand gun or a walk in and take a seat gun. I's snatch one for $600 all day long.

if its a pre-freedom arms-bankruptcy sale DPMS lr 308... thats a steal.

i paid 9 for mine before they split everything up and it all go parceled out in the bankruptcy. its overgassed as hell, and as you said - heavy - but its a damn shooter too.

i dont fire my factory upper much anymore, that XH rail thingy they had just.. ugh... but.. stil fun to play with from time to time :) i usually stick to my 20" mega barreled upper most days when i'm bringing my ar-308 out.
