DPMS

Get a DTECH upper. It will be the same cost or just a hair more and WAY BETTER. Plus you can support a sponsor. I will recieve my Dtech upper on the 22nd....YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

my has the dpms lopro & the damn thing shoots 3/4" groups at 200 with55 gr nosler BT's. Only hang up with it was when they finished it the coating is on the inside of the action and made it pretty rough. After a bit of polishing it worked much better.

I've had a DPMS for almost two years now, EVERYTHING DPMS and I couldn't be happier!! I did spend the extra $$ and get the forged upper and lower and am very satisfied. Groups at 100 yds. can always be covered with a dime! GREAT weapons!

snowwhite204,
I have a Rock River Arms A4 and love it. However, there's nothing wrong with DPMS. They started out as a parts company and then started selling finished rifles....with good success. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I've been working with AR's for some time now, and DPMS is right in my "back yard". Anything I order from them I could have the next morning. For me, the were quite handy.

DPMS doesn't do any of their own machining, all of it is contracted out. Back several years ago, they had some terrible problems with the quality of machining they were getting. I had so many problems with, both their upper and lower receivers, I quit ordering from them and refused to work with customer lowers if they were DPMS. I talked with the owner, Randy, and he always took care of the problem, but I just couldn't make money with their product.

Now, several years later, one of the dealers in my area started stocking DPMS products, including stripped lower receivers. Let me tell you, in the last 6 months or so, I have had many DPMS receivers through my shop and they have ALL been top-notch. In fact, I was so impressed I called and told their sales manager just that. This weekend I am at a gunshow in St. Paul, MN. and DPMS has a large showing there. I spent over $3000.00 on small parts at their booth!

I have, in the past, worked with the same barrels they are using for their "upper line" rifles. I purchased these both as barrel assemblies from DPMS and barrel blanks from Wilson. What I found was that not all of the barrels were capable of great accuracy. Most would produce accuracy that would make the average AR buyer happy. A couple of the barrels produced accuracy that would make even a fairly discriminating shooter happy.

Bottom line: I think, at this point, DPMS quality is quite good. If you purchase a DPMS rifle with the stainless bull barrel, it will probably be a shooter.

Here's a picture of the finished product! It has a 24" fluted bull barrel, crio'd and I also had the bolt and bolt carrier chromed for extended life supposably, there is controversy on this but I didn't think it could hurt.

I shoot the 20" stainless bull DPMS, I've had it about 4 years now. At first I had some magazine trouble that caused some jamming, got some new clips and since have fired over 1500 rounds and not one jam. The JP trigger is by far worth adding on, I haven't tried other triggers to compare, but I can't see any trigger being much better. I got the 1/9 twist and load 55 gr noslers with 27 gr W748. Anyone I've let shoot this rifle has shot less than 3/4" with it straight bullseye. That strikes me as odd, usually everyone shoots a rifle different, but this thing is shoots great no matter who is pulling the trigger.

Well my DPMS Bull 20 just arrvied Friday and I lined it up over the weekend. Had a little trouble at the beginning with the impacts going all over the target, but I some figured out the problem. I had forgot to tighten up the back mount screw and it had rattled lose. Tightened it up with a quarter and lined the scope up in less than 8 rounds.
Then that mean little bugger started punching one hole groups at 100 +/- 10yds. Went through 40 rounds of ammo before I remebered I needed to save some for later. Guess I better start stocking up on ammo if I'm going to keep using it.

Wichester 45 gr Jacketed Hollow Points from a Walmart 40 round value pack.

I have 200 rounds of Federal 50 grn Nosler BT coming in though that I intend to use for hunting.

I have several DPMS rifles and they are all shooters. Have never had a problem with one but everyone makes a mistake sooner or later. I prefer the DPMS rifles as they offer fluting, 1 in 8 twist barrels, and JP triggers from the factory.

Mike, to the best of my knowledge, they don't use Wilson barrels anymore.
