Driveway/Motion Sensor Alarms

Burnsome...

Anybody use one for an early warning system for coyotes?

Thinking about putting one out near the bait pile, but mine is visited by coons/possums/foxes every night so it would probably drive me nuts if it was detecting them.

Just curious if anybody has had success with those devices.

Driveway Alarm

I know a guy that tied his wifes dog near the bait and it would tap like crazy!
Not aloud to bring that up at his house since the dog didnt come home the last time.

I use the Hosmart version. Same one DU uses. It works better than the several others I have tried. IT came with 4 sensors. It has volume control, four different alarm sounds so you could have each sensor giving you a different sound or all the same sound. On two of the sounds, the red led is disabled so I use one of these sounds as I don't want the led light to come on. These are more expensive than the Driveway Patrol like you can get at Harbour Freight but they also work much better with greater range.

Ha! Yeah, I can see where that might be a sore topic in that household...

That Hosmart unit looks pretty nice WE.

I'll have to check distance from my house to the bait area tomorrow. Its a pretty far piece....maybe 200 yards and a lot of woods and line-of-sight issues to deal with probably. I doubt if it would work under those conditions but might be worth trying.

Worst case if it doesnt work I can always use for a home/barn/property detection unit as I've been wanting one of those anyway.

Another option might be to add a second bait area within closer distance and within line of sight of the house. Change of tactics in other words. Been thinking about that anyway and a couple of areas around here come to mind that would work well.

Thanks!

I use Motion sensors when I go to sleep.

I put the base station near my pillow and usually go to sleep.

At times rabbits have set them off but not very often.

I know a guy that has put one to good use over his bait pile. He does his shooting from his back deck and has had pretty good success with it in my opinion. I don't recall him ever saying anything about smaller critters setting off very often. Seems like the range is pretty good on the one he has.

Received the Hosmart unit yesterday with 4 sensors. Were on sale for $120. They work amazingly well and seem to be of outstanding design. Very well thought out system for sure. Its over 200 yards to my bait area from the house, with an up hill slope and ending with a down hill slope, through about 100 yards of thick woods and about 130 yards across a field initially.

I placed two sensors on my loop-around driveway in front of the house and they work great. UPS truck just came by and got the early warning both coming and going. Placed the third sensor down at the bait area. Will hold the 4th sensor in reserve for now.

Tested it by using the hound dog and it picks him up all the way down there from the house.

Time will tell, and I suspect the trick might be to adjust the height so it doesnt pick up the usual suspects that frequent every night (coons/possums/fox).
