Dueck Defense Rapid Transition Sights by Surefire

I have a set and they're AWESOME!!! I put a Truglo Tritum/fiber optic insert in the front and a XS CSAT into the rear, they are standard A2 inserts. The transition is very fast from scope to BIUS. I called Dueck with questions before ordering and Barry was out but called me back. He was very helpful and answered all my questions. He was at a big SWAT training in San Francisco and just finished a class where the Range Master had them do a drill where they had to transition from Optics to BIUS, and after the drill he demonstrated the RTS and almost everyone bought his sights after the class. The sights require some practice but are very easy to learn. They are on every AR I own.

I certainly understand your point, headhunter. They're not cheap.

Thanks, wabtklr. That's very helpful information. The sights seem awesome, as you say, and you've pretty much convinced me to lay down the cash for a set. Thanks for the TRUGLO info, too. Night sight versions were going to be my next question.

I'm just hoping I can place them well on my carbine. WABTKLR, how much rail real estate (inches) do each of the sights take up, please? Would you mind providing me a measurement, please? Thanks.

The sights take up 1" on your rail at each end. I have a Midwest Industries SS15 15" free float tube so I have a long sight radius and better accuracy.

For the cost, wouldn't a mid price red dot optic be just as good?? I've found that my old eyes don't focus on iron sights as fast as a red dot...

Well, that's possible, and probably a good suggestion. I haven't yet researched red dots, but I certainly will now that you suggest them, OT. Thanks. I may look at reflex sights, too. I'm looking for something to use alongside my Leupold hunting scope w/o having to turn the rifle a full 90 degrees for the transition. These iron sights appealed to me for what seems like a very slight transition from a top rail-mounted scope to something for close range. I'm parking a Leupold 6.5-20 on the top rail, so I need SOMETHING for close range. I'm challenged by the fact that my AR is a stubby carbine.

I think this may require significant amounts of homework on my part.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm all ears...

OH, I just remembered another feature regarding the Surefire sights which appealed to me initially......no batteries needed

That's kind of what set me on this path; building an AR that would be totally functional should "things" get bad.

I have a Leupold VX III 4.5-14 x 50 with Dueck's mounted beside. To use the Dueck's you just role the rifle 45 deg, you keep the same cheek weld on the stock, very natural and easy to use. No batteries to replace or switches to turn on. When you mount a Reflex on the top you have to change your head position to use, it's a harder transition to get used to. The Duecks are proven buy Military and LE Tactical units. I see more in magazines at the news stand every month, I was amazed that I had'nt noticed them sooner.

Yea, I'm thinking you're absolutely correct. The transition looks very smooth and near effortless. Fortunately, I don't have vision issues other than being a bit nearsighted. I might even try the reflex/red dot on top AND the Surefire sights.

I really like the Crimson Trace vertical grip/laser, too, but it would have to be removed for each hunting trip. Lasers are a no-no in my hunting areas. I think you might get jammed just possessing, but not even using one while hunting.

Thanks, unloaded! You're right; that's a great option as well. I appreciate all of you folks providing cool ideas and pointing out great products to me.
