DuraBake or DuraCoat ??

Well, I just ordered some DuraBake this morning.

Does anyone have any "words of wisdom" before I start spraying? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

It looks pretty easy. I've got an oven in the "Man Room" so the wife won't get peeved at me about the fumes. I also ordered their cleaner instead of using brake cleaner, etc. I figured it would be the "safe" thing to do.

I got the DuraBake instead of DuraCoat because I wanted a more durable finish.

Is this stuff as good as they claim?

Will it chip and scuff under normal use? (I'm not rough on my rifles)
 
I have used Norrell Moly before and its a bake on too. The one thing that I did is sand blast every thing first. Then clean clean clean every thing with break cleaner. I also wore those cheap hospital gloves when I had to handle the parts. No oily film from your hands. I really think that the cleaner you get it and the little extra time to prepare it the better the paint job will look and last.

I've used Dura Coat on a number of things. It's tougher than paint X2 but thats about all you can expect. It's a good coating but it will chip off.
 
After reading this post yesterday I dropped in on Midway and checked the products out. My impression is, they are expensive and for most of them you need a spray gun of some sort to apply it. Then I looked for reviews of the products. Not nearly as positive as I'd expected. Along with that I had a rifle for a short time (about a month)with some Duracoat applied to the barrel. I was not impressed with it's durability. I must admit that the place it wore down was at the muzzle on the crown edge. A place that rubbed every time it went in the case and you know how many times a predator rig goes in and out of a case in a day.

Krylon is my GO-To paint for a cheap and easy paint job, it's easy and cheap to touch-up too. For some thing better I'd go with one of the dipped finishs.
 
The Norrel's on my other uppers has held up real well in the last five years so I asked Mike to finish my 6x45 AR with a shadow of black and OD Norrel's.
I used some Krylon on top to finish off the scope & metal sections of the Hogue foregrip...

After practicing some on my .22, I'm going to attempt the much publicized "sponge technique" to add some gray/tan here & there for a little more contrast...
 
I have used both the dura Bake is faster cureing than the std dura coat the one thing is there prep cleaner is well worh the cost , Ounce that stuff cures it is Darn tuff Dan
