just wondering if anyone in the east tx area has ever had a big cat come to a call? if so what sounds? there have been several sightings in the area. I,m not sure if cougar is the correct name some call them panthers but the ones that have been seen were tan or light brown instead of black I would really like to see one much less kill one.

I have heard a lot of the farmers around here reporting seeing them lately. One guy claims that he has seen one that is pretty large. I have not had any luck, or has any of the other guys around here at calling them. All of the sightings have been by chance. I don't know how much I trust these stories. Between my father and I, we spend about 8 to 10 hours a day at our land, and neither of us have seen them. I have seen cat tracks, but they are small, and I would assume that they were those of bobcats.

Several years ago (about 1960) we called up one on the Red River Arsanal with a mouth caller we were using to try to call foxes. It got within about 20 yds of us and let out the scariest screem I have ever heard, I still have nightmares and hear it. There were 3 or us sitting around a big oak tree about 3 ft diameter and I swear the tree lifted up about 6 inches as all three of us straightened up. We casually walked bact to the jeep and drove about 1 mile back to camper. The cat followed us back and all night paced around the camper muttering a low growl-we didn't sleep at all. We were about 16 years old then.

Year before last, we got word of a cat near Cherokee Lake outside of Longview and one of the lake rangers got a video of a female with kittens back in the woods. Neat video.

We get lots of reports, but few if any confirmations.

This has been stated over and over, THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A DOCUMENTED CASE OF A BLACK MOUNTAIN LION (PANTHER)-EVER.

A few mountain lions have been killed in East Texas over the years, but very few. With as many game cameras and video cameras in the woods, you would think some one would produce the evidence. Not to mention someone shooting one.

I would like to know more about the video mentioned from around Longview. When you saw Ranger, to you mean Corps of Engineers or what. I will call the biologist in Longview tomorrow to see if he has heard anything about it.

Did you actually see the video, or just hear about it?

Hello Bladesmith. I live in Center about 30 miles east of Nacogdoches. I was just curious if anyone else had seen or killed one of these animals . Some friends had seen 2 back during deer season in this area then last weekend a guy I work with was riding around his place on his tractor when he came upon a deer carcas about half eaten. He got off the tractor to look thinking someone must have shot it . He said there was a hole something had started digging close to the deer about 3 or 4 feet in dia. As he knelt down for a closer look at the tracks he heard a low pitch growl, he looked up and the cat was in a big sweetgum tree about 60 or 70 yds. away He didnt have a gun so he backed up to his tractor and went back to his truck to get one, when he returned there was no sign of the cat.

Yellowhammer, Cherokee Lake is a large private lake and has their own Lake "Rangers". I have seen the picture and know very well the guy that took it, we teach Hunter Ed together. Charlie Muller has seen it, I believe. This is a confirmed spotting. I will try to get a picture and email it to you, this may take a while but I will try.

ditchdigger ,

Hell , I didn't think anyone from Center knew about this board.

I am orginally from that area. We might have to hook up and see if we can do a little hunting the next time I am there which will be next Mon.

If you happen to stop buy KC True Value next Mon. in the afternoon I will be there shooting the breeze.
