Eberlestock X-1 vs Badlands Superday

I'm going to change up my hunting style a little this year and have been looking at packs to replace my Foxpro vest. I have it narrowed down to either the Eberlestock X-1 or the Badlands Superday.

I will be carrying my electronic call, remote, few hand calls, ammo, tripod stool, trigger stick, water, and possibly a shooting mat and light. The real kicker is the 13.25lb rifle I'm planning on using this year. In the past I have used an 11.5lb gun and while it did get heavy on long days walking it wasn't unmanageable.

The badlands appears to have plenty of space for my gear and being a pound and half lighter looks to be the better pack for my day hunting needs.

Any feedback from you guys that own them or have tried them is appreciated; especially where strapping a rifle on is involved. I would like to hear any experience on which of these is the better design and if the perks trump the weight.

I have a Badlands 2200 and while it's not the day pack I can say the over all performance of Badlands' packs is top notch IMO. I would not count out the Eberlestock though they look like a great product as well and I considered one of their packs when I bought my Badlands and at that point price won out for me as both came highly recommended.

I have the Eberlestock Gunslinger 2 backpack. I use it for when I hunt from my motorcycle in the deep back country. It is a well built backpack. It is a little big, but if size and weight were a consideration then we wouldn't be talking about a 13lb rifle.

It really boils down to comfort at that point. I like the strap system that Eberlestock employs. These are the same packs that are used by military shooters the world over.

Now I have no experience with the X-1, but the Gunslinger and Gunslinger 2 use a similar scabbard design. Easy to drop your rifle into and go. My gunslinger 2 allows me the option of loading my rifle in butt down which lowered my center of gravity which helps me while I am riding. There are plenty of other bells and whistles so I have no buyers remorse in getting the Eberlestock. It will probably be the last full sized hunting backpack that I will own or need.

I picked a Superday today at Cabelas to try out. I'm not sure what I expected it to fell like loaded but it is a little weighty lol. At 28.5 lbs loaded it has to feel like something is back there I guess. Just wondering if one pack carrys the weight any better than another?

I swapped my Badlands 2200 for an Eberlestock X1A1 because I wanted the rifle scabbard. I've been really pleased so far with this pack. With a rifle and another 15-20 pounds of "stuff", it's a pleasure to carry. With a "bird bag" from Eberle, it also turns into a decent meat hauler. I wouldn't want to pack 75 pounds in it all the time, but for the application you describe, I think it's a really good option for you. You'll love that scabbard, especially considering the weight of your rifle.

I've never tried a Superday.

I just bought an X1. I used it to pack out a bull elk, so it's strong. The scabbard works great. I was able to draw with ease, and scabbard my rifle with some practice(I was using a 338 Lapua with a MK4 4.5-14x50). It has a main compartment divider that I really like and utilized, with lower compartment access on each side.

The Rip off setup is so great for packing a bow, or and elk quarter. I also have no doubt that I could pack and entire Muley buck in it(Head and all, deboned, of course).

Lots of pockets, and lots of utility. I wouldn't trade it for any other pack.

Also don't forget that the X1 has molle/pals webbing, and that provides the opportunity to add extras that other brands don't. I know Eberlestock has a line of stuff.
