Thanks for the info. I have been thinking about starting to us my shotgun and this was really the kind of info. I was needing.

That was great info! And it was the basics that I know I would forget in the field. Any chance that you may follow up that blog with some shot size recommendations? I currrently carry a 10ga Browning Gold and goin to start the reloading gig due to the fact that a decent coyote round is not avaliable. Thanks Again!

There are a lot of good loads out there and they want a lot of money for some of them. I just can not afford to shoot a large number of some of them. I find myself shooting 3 inch #4 buck most of the time out of a super full turkey choke that throws a good tight pattern in my gun. The number one reason I use that load is that it is effective and I can find them at resonable prices around here. I can walk in most any box store and buy them off the shelf. In my turkey choke the buckshot pattern is really too tight for some shooters and you may find that a full or even modified choke patterns buckshot better in your gun. I have also been known to pick up 3 inch steel loads such as T or BB shot and use those for predators. That size steel patterns best out of my modified choke, but again you must pattern each size shot in the chokes you will be using. When you find a good choke get two and hold on to them. I even find different brands of the same load will pattern differently out of the same choke thus reinforcing the need to test the patterns of each load you use. In the case of the 10 gauge and the 3.5 inch 12 gauge most any good goose hunting load can be used for predator hunting. If you can afford Dead Coyote and some of the other premium loads by all means use them as they will extend your range and give you a better pattern in most guns. ET

Interesting you used MY pattern picture in your article. That picture is on the big shotgun sticky thread at the top of this page. BTW... you're welcome I guess since I had no idea you borrowed the picture. I would have thought you would use your own pictures from your own work on the range and in the field for your article?

GC I will remove the picture if you like. I just googled a picture and got it off of the net as the clearest picture of a good pattern. Please let me know if you would like it removed.

Maybe a link or reference of some sort to the origin of the picture would be beneficial. Just an idea to lead some folks to PM and all the resources and good company available here. Does that seem reasonable?
