Egg Shoot Questions

I have a few bud's that think the egg shoot should be pretty easy. Just curious at what the rules and reg's are concerning rifle weight and scopes. I noticed something about that when I was reading the results from the P.M. shoot. I've shot ping pong balls hanging from a string at 100yds, and it ain't that easy. Thought I might get some of the "Hot Shooters" at the club to try their hand at it and see how "easy" it really is.
Thanks-pyscodog

It's a piece of cake, they all need to show up at next year's shoot.

Seriously, it's shot at 150 yds, nothing heavier than 13 lbs (rifle and ammo), 5 shots in 5 minutes to hit your egg in the first round. If you hit it, you get 3 shots in 3 minutes to hit your egg in the second round. If you hit it, you get 1 shot and 30 seconds to hit your egg in the 3rd round. Last man standing elimination after that.

Piece of cake.

Oh yeah, it all has to be done from sitting, either on the ground or a stool (we'd allow standing I guess), using hinged 2 legged shooting sticks (no bipods).

It's not too difficult off a bench, but the shooting stick requirement (deliberately) introduces a large element of luck.

Hmmm. I've shot in 200yd and 600yd egg shoots. 150yds would seem a little "less challenging", especially getting multiple shots through the first couple rounds.. Shoot could last a while, methinks. Sounds like a lot of fun, though.

Is there a factory class and a custom class?

That sounds like a blast. Might have to bring out the old trusty VS SF in .220 Swift. Been practicing shooting eggs at close 300 yds but doing it off sticks and sitting might make things interesting!

You really need to come next year Ken. That custom rifle has your name on it. Only one class, but I'm sure you can make 13 lbs.

Noobie, show up next year and we may just make an exception just for you.

We would probably let you use just about any of these "trees" just for the "after" pics.

600 yd egg shoot?? If you are that good you should show up next year. Winning shouldnt be a problem at 150 yards and you could win a custom AR.

That does sound like fun, Leon.

Neither of my 2 F-class rifles will make 13lbs., but I do have a factory CZ with a T-36 with 200yd egg "factory class" shoots in mind. It seems to have a lot of potential with 69gr SMks.........

We have a couple of egg shoots every year for fun. The shortest distance we shoot at is 300 yards. And then a couple different classes, and methods of shooting. Lots of fun. But we do not take it real serious. No guns in our prize pool. Tom.

I'd like to say i could hit eggs "all day long" @ 600yds, but that's not true. I do have 2 600yd egg shoot wins to my credit, however.

There are some very good shooters out there. A bunch at the couple ranges I shoot at. I messed up royally and only hit 8/10 eggs @ 200yds in my last 200yd egg shoot. That was not good enough to make it out of the first round........

I bet you guys use chicken eggs. Around here we use sparrow eggs shot from horseback at full gallop. The advanced class (over 12) ride bareback and shoot under the horse's neck Indian style. j/k..going to have to try this.

I'm sure there are plenty of rifles with the potential. As are there plenty of shooters that have the potential off a bench or prone with bipod.

It's the shooters shooting those rifles off the sticks that makes it interesting.

If you don't have room enough to stretch out for proper egg shooting, I would suggest shooting Dum Dums. They are the little 1/2 diameter suckers the sell at Walmart for about $3 for a bag of 200. A Dum Dum at 100 yds. is about the same challege as an egg at 300 yds and they make a lot less mess on the range. (Dead candy smells alot better than splattered eggs after a few days).

Give them a try and you can become a member of the International Dum Dum Shooters Association.

Here is a recount of the first IDDSA Championship.

Your definition of "interesting" equates to mine of "Frustrating"... Especially when your rifle starts 'acting up' with feeding problems...That's happened twice for me the last two times I competed in the Egg Shoot with my AR that shot perfectly the day before...Sticks throw a whole new dimension into the equation...

Next year, I'll go back to my bolt action for the 'shoot'...

uhhhh are there any BIG pine trees at the egg shoot that can be used as back rests?

Nope.
I asked about using the shed support post as a back rest and was told no.

But you can use a folding chair with a back rest, and you can use the arm of the chair or the back of the chair as a support for the stock of your rifle.
