ELD-m's and other heavyweights.

Has anybody used the 22 caliber 88grn ELD-m's on coyotes? How well did they expand?

I'm starting to push shots beyond 500yds and the 64 TGK's I'm currently shooting really get pushed around by the wind at longer ranges.

What other heavyweight 22 cal bullets are suitable for killing?

Thanks guys!

I've shot several with the 77SMK, 77TMK and the 75BTHP. They do a good job at killing but definitely aren't very fur friendly. IMO the 223 is an outstanding calling rifle and works well at close to medium range.

At 500 the little 223 is really running out of steam and IMO you might think about jumping up to a different caliber if your wanting to consistently anchor coyotes that far. Low velocity equals low energy and long flight time, I don't think going to the 88s with the higher bc is enough to make a huge difference. The big bullets also won't run through a magazine.

I never said anything about wanting to shoot them from a .223 and even the 88eld-m absolutely will feed fom an AIAW mag.

My bad, I assumed you was running it through a regular AR in 556 in which case it would not run through a mag.

I've killed quite a few with Berger 75 grain VLD's in the past out of a 22-204 at 3075. Actually a pretty good fur bullet.

Then switched out to the Berger 80 VLD's at 3025 with equal results.

Built a 22x47 throated for the 80 VLD's.

That gun's a killing SOB, but can be problematic on fur running them at 3370.

I'm running a creed, and those are close to the velocities I'm expecting. There's no elevation advantage to the heavies, just half the wind drift.

I am going to try the 80 ELD's in my 22 Creedmoor. In todays market it is hard to find most of the bullets I like. The 69gr TMKs shoot fantastic in my rifle, but I can't find any. Only looking because I am setting up a Long range rifle.

I've shot a lot of coyotes with Berger 75gr VLD's in a 22-6mm and though I can't recall ever losing one the results on target have been rather mixed. On some they'd open up and leave big gaping holes then on another I'd get a caliber size entry and a slightly larger exit and it didn't really seem to matter the distance they were shot at because those mixed results appeared at a variety of distances.

I'm shooting 80gr ELD-M's from my 224 Terminator (22-243 improved) launching them pretty fast at 3650 but I haven't shot a coyote with it yet. My hunch is it won't be very fur friendly.

I've shot quite a few as well with the 75 Berger, and never saw what you experienced, although mine were all out of a 22-204 at 3075

Originally I was sending them around 3500 but then I had a few inches lopped off the barrel and they're now leaving at just a little over 3400. Those 75gr VLD's have always shot extremely well but it was weird how one it would leave a hole in the side the size of a softball and another would only maybe be around the size of a quarter.

Another data point is the last couple dozen I've shot with the 80 VLD's, I also pointed them, and have never seen one not open up whether at 3025 or 3370.
