Electronic Call for Deer in Minnesota?

I had a game warden tell me that you couldn't use it. But, I know he's wrong. (aren't ya!?! he's likely lurking here now. HA HA) I think it has to be a "Wired" set to be legal. I don't think you can use the remote but I'm not positive about that.

I'd say if you have a wired set, you are good to go for sure.

Thanks Randy. I have some Minaska deer sounds that I loaded on my iPOD and run thru 75' of cable to the Cass Creek amplifier.

I think the wireless remote ecaller would most likely be in viloation but wasn't sure about a wired set up.

I'd scan the law book. In minnesota it never says what we can do, it says what we can't. So, find the section on remote control or "Radio Waves" and use that as your guide.

I'll try to look too and see what I find.

Here's what the law says:

"Using walkie talkies, cell phones, remote control or other radio equipment to take big game or small game is unlawful."

There is an exception for predators and crows for remote callers but it's pretty clear that for big game, it's a no-no.

PS. I just went to foxpro's site to see how they worded it. They have a few things wrong and have a few things that are too vague. I wouldn't rely on any internet postings or sites to describe rules or laws unless it's the DNR's page. (heck, I wouldn't even trust me in this thread. You really should look it up yourself and make your own decisions. ) I've discovered that calling St. Paul for the answers is really bad news. Those folks don't know a lot.

Thanks and I agree on calling St Paul, been there done that! I guess the hand calls and antlers will be in my pack again. It would be nice to start using technology but then again, this is "the state where absoulely nothing is allowed"

Personally, I've used my Johnny Stewart Preymaster with the wires on it. They have some great sounds and it works like a charm...

I sent an email to our DNR a little while back on this subject, this is their response:

"Electronic game calls would be legal for bear and deer. Illegal for moose and elk. The calls can not be remote controlled. Remote controls are illegal to use."
