elk calling videos & favourite calls

Anyone know of any videos that would provide insight into calling elk? I hunt bow season which runs for two weeks in late August - early September, what calling would be most effective at this time?

Also what are your favourite brand and model of calls for both cow and bull?

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
I just watched Primos "The Truth 5" a couple weeks ago. It is one of the best I have see for really showing how the calling is done and lots of video of the called in elk responding.
Lots of shots of the called in elk bugling at inside of 40 yards. Really shows how to do it and lots of bow shots on camera.
I use the Abe Moline bugle and cow call with Primos Ivory Pallet diaphragm calls. I have tried quite a few different ones over the years and these have been the most consistent for me.

AHunter gave you almost exactly the same advice I would have given. The Primos videos are the best I've seen. I've got the Truth II and IV, and they both do a great job of showing close up bulls vocalizing, and you can hear the calls they're responding to as well. In the Truth II, there's a bull that comes in and he starts huffing like a really loose bow saw. It's pretty amazing some of the sounds they'll make.

Having said that, I would recommend buying the Abe & Son calls. They've got the best sound, in my opinion. Plus, Primos seems to just rip off the designs of other call makers, and that just kind of rubs me the wrong way. Their Terminator bugle is basically a copy of the Abe & Son Dominator.

Basically, the particular calls you use are less important than the way you use them. That's why I think the videos will probably be your best investment.
