Ok the encore and the pro hunter look like the same gun just that the pro is shiney is there any diffrence?
If you were to buy one which one would you pick??
i like that the pro hunter comes in .308 but i also like that the enccore can come in a rimfire

I just scored a STEAL on an Encore in 243, I worked up a load for that, and bought 222 and 30-06 barrels for it. (Scoped Blue Synthetic in TC 24" 243 for $400 + ship off GunBroker.)

I asked the same question and was told that the barrels interchange, but you need the pro hunter forend for the pro hunter barrels. I haven't tried that yet.

Very happy with the Encore so far. 3/4" groups at 100yd with 87gr V-Max smokin' in at about 3250! SOOOOOOOOO much easier to open that the old Contender!

One of the guys at our range that tinkers with guns quite a bit told me that you can modify one of them (I think it was the prohunter) to accept encore barrels.

If you are buying primarily for a muzzleloader, I would really urge you to look into the Savage 10 ML-II smokeless muzzleloader. First check regs in your state to make sure it is legal. It is the absolute most accurate muzzleloader I have ever seen.

NOT that the encore/prohunter aren't good guns, but the Savage is in a class by itself.

Just MHO.

I could be wrong but my understanding is that the prohunter is just a newer version of the encore. I pretty sure that the barrels are interchangable as well. I had a prohunter 15 inch 204 barrel on my regular encore frame and even used the same forend. If you want a muzzle loader barrel I know that takes a special forend all its own. On the prohunter frame they made the hammer swivel from side to side for right or left hand shooting and for when you put a scope on it rather than needing a hammer extension. As far as being able to shoot rimfire through them I don't know about the prohunter model but the original encore you can get a kit to put in it and enable it to shoot rimfire. I don't know much about it as I have never done it but I have seen them for sale. Either one you can't go wrong as they are one sweer and versatile gun. Hope this helps RC

The barrels interchange. The stocks and forarms inter change. The "Pro Hunter" maybe looks a little better to some folks but it is just marketing cosmetics and a much larger price. It sure is not a better gun, because the hammer swings. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Pro Hunter has a longer barrel 26"heavy vs. 24"for the Encore but they do interchange with only the differant foreend being needed. And the Pro Hunter has a pivoting hammer. Otherwise they are the same. Don't get the Encore/Pro Hunter confused with the Contender wich has limited barrels and chamberings avalible. The Encore/Pro Hunter is supposed to hav a better lock up that makes it easer to open the action than the Contender /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Pro hunters interchange barrels with the encores the only diff is that encores come with up 26 inch barrels and the pro hunter have 28 inch i have the encore with a 28 inch 300 win mag pro hunter barrel /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

My understanding is the same as what "Rock Crusher" said. The Pro Hunter is just the new version. I have a Pro Hunter with a 14" barrel in 7mm-08. Call the folks at Thompson Center and ask them what the difference is. I called them many times when I was purchasing my 7-08. They were always very helpful.
