Encore vs contender

Mtncat, You can't shoot rimfire cartridges without installing a aftermarket firing pin conversion kit in the Encore. The Encores are a little more robust, and are able to handle the larger calibers not offered in the Contender. They both are great guns just depends on what you want to use it for. I advise people to buy whichever they choose in a pistol version first, so they may convert it to a rifle later without any legal problems. Hope this helps. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

No contest, Encore all the way, you want a rimfire thats what 10/22's are for /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

So your saying that cause my Encore is a rifle, I can't get a short barrel and pistol stuff for it??????? Not that it matters anyway, cause I have no intention of doing so.

t/c223encore?

No I'm not saying you can't get a short barrel and pistol stuff. What I am saying is that in some states doing so may be illegal. I see your from California, so I would almost bet money that its illegal to convert from rifle to pistol there, but thats just my guess. I would however suggest checking your state laws if you ever decided to do so.

It is illegal in the entire US by federal statute, the 1937 GCA, to convert any rifle into a pistol. TC did win a major court decision that allows TC owners to convert a pistol into a rifle and then back to a pistol. Prior to that decision any pistol converted to a rifle had to remain a rifle.
Nothing about that court case changes the fact that no rifle can ever be converted into a pistol, at least without going through the registration and tax thing for a restricted firearm.

Jack is correct. I wrote a letter asking if it was legal to convert a pistol to rifle. NO. But you can do it the other way. So pistol it was when I purchased another encore.

Jack, Thanks for jumping in here and letting everyone know about the Federal statute regarding converting rifles into pistols. I thought that doing so was only illegal in some states but did not know that it was illegal in all. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I grew up with Contenders so obviously they are the sentimental favorite for me. Setup and loaded correctly both can make a slick carbine or a large handgun. If you are hunting big game, don't like fooling with wildcat cartridges or want the power of modern high intensity chamberings....Encore.

The Encore and the newer Contender G2s are identical in appearance save for the fact that the G2 is about 30% smaller frame. Encore can be had in all the .308, 30-06, .300 WM based cartridges plus anything a Contender can be had in. Contenders are limited to most handgun and 30-30, .444 and .222RM based cartridges....

The "handgun/rifle" legality issues rage on with our government with regard to TCs. My sentiments are that legal or not the feds have far greater issues to resolve than a couple thousand guys stumbling around with single shot guns regardless.

Except the Encore doesn't do rimfire cartridges.
