EOTech, 3X magnifier, and PVS-14

Hey guys I am very interested in getting a EOTech, along with the 3X magnifier for my AR. I have a EOTech on a 10/22 of mine and I love it. It is a coyote rifle and where I am from it is nothing but flat fields so I must be able to make relatively long shots. Up to 300+ yards. Do you guys think that is pushing it with just 3X? How far out would you guys be comfortable shooting a coyote with the 3X magnifier? Also, I have a PVS-14 and was wondering if anyone knew if it would work good behind the EOTech magnifier for night? ITT makes a 3X magnifier for the PVS-14, but if the EOTech will do the same thing I can get by with one magnifier for both day and night use. Thanks!

- Chances are most of my night shots would be much less than 300 yards, and hopefully my day shots as well. I am just getting into coyote hunting and am not sure how they will be around here.

EoTech + PVS14 + EoTech 3x mag isn't going to work since it'll create parallax issues.

Best bet is to buy a Mil Spec 3x mag for your PVS14 and run your EoTech in front of it. You can find them used, but in excellent shape from $125-$175.

Make sure your EoTech is NV capable, or you'll serverly damage your imagine tube on your '14. That's be a $1000 fix...

I am aware I need a NV capable EOTech, the one on my 10/22 is not NV capable but this is why I will be purchasing a new EOTech for the AR. I will keep my eyes open for the 3X mag for the PVS-14. Thanks

Best bet of snatching up a USED 3x is on Snipershide.com or AR15.com.

On the 'Hide, you need 100 post to purchase stuff from the fs forums.

I will try the PVS-14 with the Nikon Monarch scope that is currently on my AR first, but thats getting to be one big setup on my gun.

Tim,

I believe you're right, but a lot of people wont sell to people without post count. It's up to the seller though.

Parker22, in order to make that Nikon to work, you'll need a PVS14 scope adapter. You'll also need a rail to move your scope up since the PVS14 will be connected to the day scope and it'll mess up your current check weld. You CANNOT put the PVS14 in front of your scope like a PVS22, or it'll create server parallax issues.

The PVS14/scope adapter run $179 if I recall correctly. You can get them at tacticalnightvision.com. I believe Vic is a sponsor on here, too.

I have been busy the last few nights but tonight I will mount it up and see how it looks. I for sure need a better rail system on my riffle to move the scope forward. I will go ahead and try tonight but it will by no means be comfortable to shoot with the PVS-14 being so far back. If I like the way it works with the day scope I may just go this route (after getting a better rail system and possibly a better mount for the 14) but I absolutely love the EOTech on my 10/22 and would love to be able to use one at night with some magnification. Do you by any chance have a IR illuminator? I am considering getting The Torch from TNVC but I want to get everything else set-up before I worry about that. I just think it will make picking up a coyotes eyes pretty easy, last night it was really dark and I could really not see all that far with the PVS-14 I could have probably identified a coyote up to 100 yards but beyond that I would have needed a long range IR.

Parker22,

I have two "Da Torches." They're the only IR I would recommend. They're like spot lights at night.

I have an original Da Torch without the adjustable beams and I have the newer version with the adjustable beams.

It's nice to be able to adjust your beam size for close or longer range stuff. I have no problems detecting deer eyes at 500-600yds. Lighting building or trees up at 800yds isn't a problem.

Get a Da Torch and you'll be in love, esp on these past few nights when their hasn't been any ambient light.

Thats what I wanted to hear, being able to pick up eyes at 5-600 yards would be great. I just tried my pvs-14 through my day scope and it will work ( I still need longer rail but just wanted to get a feel for it ) The image was clear and what not but I think I will for sure keep my eyes open for a 3X magnifier for the PVS. I would much rather be able to use a EOTech than a dayscope. I will more than likely be purchasing a XPS3 EOTech soon. Thanks for all the help, Im sure I will have more questions.

Glad I could offer some help to you.

What Nikon are you running?

Bigger the objectives works best at night from my experience with the NV. My Swaro 4-12*50 is amazing at night with the PVS14 on the back.

I've been wanting to purchase an XPS3, too.

Good thread...similar questions I've been wondering.

I have an xps3 and like it a lot btw. It's my first Eotech so I have nothing to compare it to, but with the 3x flip up I had fun shooting steel today.

Good to hear. I have a EOTech on one other rifle and I absolutely love it so I cant imagine it being any worse, if anything better, the small size would be great.

It is a Nikon Monarch 3-12*42 BDC. Pretty good scope.

I can't decide if I would want the XPS3 with the two dots or just the one. I keep thinking that with two even though it may come in handy, it might take away from the simplicity of it.

There is a lot to look at with the two dots. One dot would be simpler. Sometimes I wish I had the one dot version. I am getting more and more used to the two dots though.
