EOtech magnifier

For those of you with an EOtech with the 3x magnifier does the magnifier make a lot of difference?
On mine at 100 yards the dot is hard to pin point on a paper target for trying to shoot a group. I like the EOtech but feel the magnifier would make it a better outfit for my AR-15 for coyote hunting.

The magnifier is not made for trying to shoot tight groups on paper. There is nothing in the 3x power range that is good for that. If you want to shoot paper and try to get tight groups you need to get a 14x scope or higher.

Your EO-Tech is designed for fast target acquisition and minimum 1 MoA shooting at 100 yards...As you extend your range the dot becomes relatively larger on your target..

The 3x magnifier just allows a little more precise aiming at longer distances..but it's still a 1 MoA dot..

As Reb8600 stated, you need a different optic for shooting tight groups...I use a couple of 8-32x for really precision shooting and a minimum of 14x with a fine reticle for anything over 100 yards with a small target..

As stated already, tight groups is not what it is designed for. That being said, I do like my Eotech and 3x mag for coyote hunting.

The 3x is pretty nice. I turn my illumination down to where I can just barely see it and that helps some with "precision" because the dot looks smaller.

the 3x mag will make a difference and the reticle appears much clearer...I am able to keep it in 4 inches at 200 yds with my 6.8 and this set up...definatly not a "target" scope but great for called coyotes.

Thanks for the response's guys, I have a 6.5x20 leupold for shooting groups thats not 100% what I'am trying to achive. I just lose focus with my eyes at 100 yards looking throughout my EoTech at the range. I can hit a coyote with it the way it is but would just like to clear things up some and have a better sight picture. Its hard to explain what I'am after. I will see if I can find someone with one I can try. Thanks

Not to hijack the thread but how much better is a $500 magnifier vs a $125 magnifier? I would think you could achieve the same results with a lower end magnifier especially since we r only talking 3x. I could very well be wrong it's more of a question then a statement.

Dmcgee, it may work just fine. I have bought things over the years to save money some things worked fine. But I have found myself with a lot of things I wish I could go back and make a different decision on. The old saying you get what you pay for has come around and bit me more than once. Usually I still have to buy the higher priced item only after waisting money trying to do it the less expensive way, costing more. That's why many on here buy items like Leupold, Night Force etc. Plus when it comes time to sale or trade it, the name makes it a lot easier. Also the big name companies seem to stay in business a lot longer and are easier to track down than those companies from China. That's why I buy "known" quality products and pay more. Not to say many of the other companies may not be fine.

I've tried out the EOTech and 3x magnifier on my AR for hunting and it just isn't practical in my opinion. It costs about $900-1000 for the combo and for the same amount of money, if not less, you can get a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x, Burris XTR 1-4x, or Vortex PST 1-4x and achieve the same goal, while also gaining 1 more level of magnification. It is also much easier to just dial the scope up or down to the desired magnification rather than having to keep flipping the magnifier back and forth. While some people may say that 4x is too low to make accurate shots past 100 yards, I disagree. You can shoot some pretty tight groups at 100-200 yards with 4x or even 3x, especially if you have actual crosshairs on a scope instead of the 1 MOA dot on the EOTech. Unless you're shooting yotes at 400+ yards a good 1-4x scope or 3x magnifier should do the trick, but if you need to make shots that far then a 1-4x and a 3x magnifier are both out of the question and you just need to get a high power scope to switch out with the EOTech. Hope this helps.
