Nuts, I just heard Evil died. I believe he was 69 yrs young. Rats, that makes me a little sad. I used to look up to the guy when I was a kid, hell I even had dreams of becoming a stuntman because of him (my mom squashed that one after a bike/roof/rope adventure when I was 10/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif) I also was pretty impressed with his no bs. attitude and actions later in life. You know you're getting older when your childhood heroes start to go. R.I.P. Evil!!!

BTW: Can anyone tell me who are the stand-up guys (famous, in the public eye) that little boys look up to these days? Other than Steve Irwin (even though he's gone too, my son idolizes the guy) I'm drawing a blank. Sad.

Nope, about all that are left are girlie-men and that includes the guy who coined the phrase. The feminization of America is about complete. Most of the real men in this country are here on PM and nobody knows about us /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use to want to be like Knevel wne I was a kid. Several crashes, busted motorcycles, bruises, and trips to the hospital late I decided I should be something with a longer life expectancy.

Dang, I hadn't heard that yet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif We used to try and "duplicate" some of his jumps back in the late 70's /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Sometimes we'd go for heighth, like standing trash cans, or across the box of our old 195? pickup, and sometimes we'd go for distance, one of which got the best of me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I did set the record, 1 sled, 1 radio flyer, and a number of logs(meant for the fireplace), I forget how many. I cleared them all, but my landing was a little rough, with me going face first between my handle bars, and kissin the sidewalk. Lost half both my front teeth on that one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif My mom was pleased. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif Right before school pictures too. They've since been fixed, and out again, and fixed. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

He was one of a kind.

I still remember watching on television when he tried jumping the snake river.

I had an Evil Knievel motorcycle toy that you pulled a cord and the bikes motor revved up then you hit the release and it took off doing a wheelie like a bat outta hell. [beeep], I miss that toy.

Long live his Harley Davidson Wheelies.

What ever you think of him ,he was a one off original.
I think his kind of adventures fostered a bit of the extreme sports we see today, free style mx ect.
a truly unique individual.

Ya he was the Dude!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

I broke half my bones as a youngster on Motocross bikes and snowmobiles trying to emulate his stuff. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Guess I did pretty good! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When I was a kid in the 1970's Evil Knievel and The Six Million Dollar Man were the two characters I loved the most. Yep, I had the Knievel stunt bike and would love to have kept it.

EK was the real deal. He might have been a pompus pain in the rear back in his heyday, but you couldn't take away the fact he was bold.

If I had all the skin back on me I lost jumping bicycles and motorcycles trying to be like him I would be at least 10 pounds heavier! If he would have had the equipment of today there is no telling what he would have done and what else he would have tried.
