shot a fox on monday night side on shot aimed for the chest at 100 yards bang flop.i use a 75 grain v max in 243 and the exit wound was hardly an inch .on other occaisions i have shot foxes with the same bullet and the exit has been up to 10 inches and on some occasions almost cut the fox in two.can anyone tell me why the diffrence can be so dramatic is it if the bullet hits bone.any help appreciated.

A ballistic tip when it hits bone it blows up like a small bomb, and the bullet fragments carry out the other side and leave a gapping huge hole. Expecitally when shot out of a .243 or 25-06. I have nearly cut coyotes in half when shot with a 85gr. Nosler ballistic tip out of my 25-06. Brings new meaning to bang-flop...more like bang-splat.

Shotgun em, or use a 22 mag or maybe the new .17. I've taken lots of fox with 22-250s, 220 swifts and 243, they all usually leave large holes. If guys tell you to use FMJ don't do it unless you can do a head shot everytime, good luck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
