Falling in love with the 22-250 again

I picked up a used Tikka 22-250 last year because I wanted a cheaper rifle to cut the barrel and put my suppressor on. I didn't want to cut the Sako I have. It's a nice rifle and plenty accurite. I still think it is one of the best cartridges for coyotes. Using Sierra 55 gr SBT and Nosler 55 BT, they shoot to the same place at 100 yds.

However that Tikka has some competition for my favorite, because I like the 17-204 and my 6BR an awful lot too. Yea that 223AI is up there also.

The 22-250 has been a favorite cartridge for me for years. No matter what other new thing/cartridge I come up with, its still a good go-to cartridge for me for small animals and predators. Maybe overpowered for some but just right for others.

I've owned 22-250 rifles for as long as I can remember and have always been satisfied with the 1-14" or 1-12" twist rates which shoots normal hunting type 55 grain bullets exceedingly well in my rifles. Last fall when Whitakers offered a Tikka with an 8" twist, I bit the hook and bought one and played with it for awhile with heavier bullets and really did not see any great advantages gained. It I need or want heavier bullets, I'll go to a larger 6MM cartridge that will still shoot them relatively flat for hunting purposes. I'm not into long range target work.

Still, its another 22-250 in the stable and I don't mind having a few extra ones in assorted styles from HB rifles to light carry rifles. It's an older classic cartridge that keeps on truckin' in a grand fashion.

Love the two-fiddy.....my first varmint rig was a 788 in 22-250 with a 4X Jap Tasco that I bought in a bar while working on a gubment housing project down in AZ about 100 years ago. I had no idea the cartridge even existed but it sure looked cool and one of the local bucks needed money bad and I had a bunch of subsistence money burning hole in my pocket soooooo.
That rifle led to my interest in Predator hunting and reloading so yea....I'm a fan.

I have remained loyal to the 250 and it rarely lets me down.
Continuing to shoot little bullets with factory twist rifles works well.
I see the fads come and go but have never tried to make one into the next larger caliber.
It's amazing to me that cartridges like this were developed decades ago and only got better with powders and bullet development.

I have a couple around here, a Rem 722 that started as a 300 Sa. but wears a 22-250 LVSF barrel in a 700 stock With an Elite 4200 2.5-10x40mm scope, it also has a 26" HB barrel fitted to it so I can switch them out including a 700 stock with a varmint contour channel.

Plus a Savage model 10 that used to wear a HB barrel and a Boyds stock, I just screwed a sporter barrel and dropped it in a factory stock, SS trigger and a B&L Balvar-8 scope in solid mounts, shoots lights out.

I will say my two favorite coyote guns are a 222 Rem and a 22-204 as I rarely need a long range gun any more and seldom take the 22-250 anywhere but the range.
